Churches Featured in Historic Hawai'i News

The September 2015 issue of Historic Hawai'i News mentions two Hawai'i Conference churches.
  • Huialoha Congregational Church in Kaupo, Maui, was recently restored, and a rededication service was held on August 29.
  • Mokuaikaua Church in Kailua-Kona was awarded a grant from the Sam and Mary Cooke Preservation Fund for Hawai'i to create space in the church to build awareness of the church’s restoration needs.

Kaua'i  Association Sets Date for 'Aha Mokupuni

Kaua'i Association churches and ministers will gather for the Fall 'Aha Mokupuni at Church of the Pacific in Princeville on Sunday, November 1, starting at 3 p.m.

It's Time for Fall Fairs

  • Waialua UCC (67-174 Farrington Highway, Waialua) will hold its Fall Festival on Saturday, October 10, from 12 to 6 p.m.  There will be food, bouncers, country store, healing prayers, entertainment, delicious homemade pastries, professional magician, and more. For information, call 808-637-5934.
  • Ewa Community Church (91-1258 Renton Road, Ewa) hosts its 34th Annual Mission Fair on Saturday, October 17, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Food, plants, home-made baked items and crafts, rummage sale and collectibles will be available.  For information, call 808-681-3471.
  • Manoa Valley Church (2728 Huapala Street, Honolulu) hosts its 45th Annual Harvest Fair on Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Games, food, clothing, household goods, plants, produce, a white elephant sale and more will be available.  Proceeds benefit the church’s building and maintenance fund.  For information, call 808-988-3271.

Learn How to Prevent Falls

The latest in fall prevention will be the topic at the Hawai'i State Fall Prevention Conference to be held at the Hawai'i Convention Center (1801 Kalakaua Avenue, Honolulu) on October 16, 7 a.m.-4:45 p.m.  For information and to register, click HERE.

Central Union Hosts Movie Night

"Paddington" is the feature film at "Movie Under the Stars" on Saturday, October 24, at Central Union Church (1660 South Beretania Street, Honolulu).  From 5 p.m., there will be food trucks and a first aid workshop.  Showing of the movie begins at 6 p.m.


In Memory: Akira Shimizu

Retired minister Akira Shimizu died October 4 at the age of 88.  The Rev. Shimizu was ordained in 1955 and served as Japanese language minister of Waipahu UCC and Nu'uanu Congregational Church, in addition to churches in Japan.  Memorial service will be held at Central Union Church on October 7 at 4 p.m.  His family includes his wife, Seiko, and son, Hajime.
