'Aha Pae'aina Packets Mailed to Churches

Registration packets for the 2013 'Aha Pae'aina ('Aha Iki, June 5-6; 'Aha Makua, June 6-8) have been mailed to churches.  Please look for the packet, which contains registration and hotel information.  Deadline to register is May 6.  Click HERE to view this information on the website and to register on-line.

Planned Giving Workshop Postponed

The planned giving workshop, announced in the last issue of the Coconut Wireless, has been postponed. The new date will be announced as soon as it has been determined.

Conference Council Prepares for 'Aha

On April 6, the Conference Council met to hear reports from around the Hawai'i Conference and to prepare for the upcoming 'Aha Pae'aina.  Among actions taken was a recommendation to 'Aha delegates the consideration of a resolution submitted by Keawala'i Church (Maui) to establish a Kalaupapa Sunday.  The Council also received nominations for Council member positions and elected William Paris to a four-year term on the Conference Foundation Board of Trustees.  For more information, contact Conference Minister Charles Buck (cbuck@hcucc.org).

Youth@GS: Housing Deadline Approaches

Deadline to reserve housing for youth attending General Synod is next Monday, April 22. A special block of rooms has been set aside for youth groups traveling to Long Beach to attend Youth@GS, which begins Wednesday, June 26.  Click HERE to learn more about some of the special activities being planned for the week, including the opening "Extravagant Welcome Aloha Style" event, which is being planned by the Hawai'i Conference.

Arcadia Receives Accreditation

Congratulations to Arcadia Retirement Residence for receiving a five-year accreditation as a Continuing Care Retirement Community.  The accreditation, based on Arcadia’s commitment to being the best retirement community in Hawai'i and its visionary approach to offering services and programs, was issued by CARF International, an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services.

Waipahu UCC Annual Bazaar

Waipahu United Church of Christ (94-330 Mokuoka Street, Waipahu) will hold its Annual Bazaar on Saturday, April 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The “best chicken in town,” plants, used clothing and white elephant goods will be available for purchase.

Kailua Christian Church Garage Sale

Kailua Christian Church (317 Manono Street, Kailua, O'ahu) will hold a garage sale on Saturday, April 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Clothing, household goods, small appliances, and linen will be sold.

Choral Concert at Central Union Church

Central Union Church’s Oratorio Choir, Chancel Choir and Soloists Ensemble will present a Spring Choral Concert on Sunday, April 21, 4 p.m., at the church (1660 S. Beretania Street, Honolulu).  A freewill offering will be received.  Click HERE for more information, including program. 

'Aha Mokupuni on April 27

Both Hawai'i Island and Tri-Isle Associations will hold Spring 'Aha Mokupuni on Saturday, April 27:
  • Hawai'i Island Association 'Aha Mokupuni at Ho'olokahi Congregational Church, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Tri-Isle Association 'Aha Mokupuni at Keawala'i Congregational Church, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Music Celebrated at Waipahu UCC

Waipahu United Church of Christ (94-330 Mokuoka Street, Waipahu) will feature "Celebrate Miracles and Music!" on Saturday, April 27, 2:30 pm to 4 p.m. Performances include taiko, gospel music and children's choir. The event is free but a love offering will be collected to benefit the youth and mission in Japan.  For more information contact the church office at 808-677-3317.

Crossroads Plans Earth Care Events

Church of the Crossroads (1212 University Avenue, Honolulu) hosts presentations in April and May on energy conservation and climate change. On April 27 the church will be planting native trees and shrubs at Na Pohaku o Hauwahine, Kawainui Marsh. Click HERE for more information.

Woman’s Board Holds Annual Meeting

King Kamehameha Celebration at Kawaiaha'o

Kawaiaha'o Church (957 Punchbowl Street, Honolulu) will hold its King Kamehameha Celebration on Saturday, June 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This annual event features crafts made by local artisans and crafters and a lu'au. Click HERE for additional information and to order your lu'au plate.
