Panel Discusses Divestment and Economic Leverage

Chicago Theological Seminary will host a panel discussion on divestment and economic leverage as tools for peace and justice for Palestinians in Israel.  The event will take place May 8, 10 a.m.-12 noon (Hawai'i time) and can be viewed as a livestream on your computer.

Makiki Preschool Turns 50

Makiki Christian Church Preschool will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Saturday, April 18, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in the church’s Upper Social Hall (829 Pensacola Street, Honolulu).  Tickets for "Golden Jubilee” are $20 for adults and $10 for children under the age of 10.  For information and to purchase tickets, call 808-594-8916. 
 

 Register for O'ahu 'Aha Mokupuni

The O'ahu Association Spring 'Aha Mokupuni will be held on Saturday, May 9, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Moanalua Community Church (4867 Bougainville Drive, Honolulu).  Registration deadline is April 29.
 

Woman’s Board Holds Annual Meeting

The Woman's Board of Missions for the Pacific Islands will observe 144 years of ministry at its Annual Meeting on Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in the Parish Hall at Central Union Church (1660 South Beretania Street, Honolulu).  Tickets are $25 per person and include lunch.  To purchase tickets, call Executive Director Clara Priester at 808-791-5647 or 808-990-0503.

In Memory

  • Jia He Cheng, a former pastor of the Chinese congregation at First Chinese Church of Christ in Hawaii, died April 7 at the age of 93.  Before coming to Hawai'i in 1991, he was a pastor and seminary instructor in the People’s Republic of China.  Funeral service will be held at the church this Saturday, April 11, 9:30 a.m., with burial at 1 p.m. at Valley of the Temples.  His family includes his wife, Lydia, and son, Xing.
  • Richard Neill, a former pastor of Kahikuonalani Church and member of Church of the Crossroads, died March 27 at the age of 84.  Ordained in 1958, Dick also pastored churches in New York and Vermont.  Memorial service will be held at Church of the Crossroads on April 18 at 2 p.m.  His family includes his wife, Diane, and four children.

Pastoral Changes

Richard Kamanu resigned as Pastor of Kaumakapili Church after ten years of ministry there.  His last Sunday was April 5.
 

Lihue Christian Member Is Nominated As Regent

David Iha, Lihue Christian Church member and Vice-Chair of the Conference Council, has been named by Governor David Ige to fill the vacant Kaua'i seat on the University of Hawai'i Board of Regents subject to State Senate confirmation.
