Conference Ministers and Collegium Respond to Child Refugees

Conference Ministers and the Collegium of Officers of the United Church of Christ have written a pastoral letter in response to the flood of child refugees coming to the United States from Central America.  The letter offers to churches suggestions for their own response and action.
 

UCC General Minister Visits Hawai'i

Geoffrey Black, General Minister and President of the United Church of Christ, and Karen Georgia Thompson, UCC Ecumenical Officer, will visit the Hawai'i Conference next week. A clergy gathering to talk story with the Revs. Black and Thompson will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Hawai'i Conference Office. O'ahu Association Approves New Minister

Cindy Au was approved for ordination pending a call by the O'ahu Association Ecclesiastical Council on July 20.  Cindy is Chaplain at Arcadia and Craigside Retirement Communities and is a member of Hawaii Kai UCC.
 

Mokuaikaua Pastor to Be Installed

David de Carvalho will be installed as Pastor of Mokuaikaua Church (75-5713 Alii Drive, Kailua-Kona) by the Hawai'i Island Association on Saturday, August 16, 10 a.m.  
 

Churches Hold Annual Lu'au

  • Lili'uokalani Protestant Church (66-090 Kamehameha Highway, Haleiwa) will hold its 38th Annual Benefit Lu'au on Saturday, August 2.  Tickets are $17.50 (take out, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.) and $20 (sit down, 1-4 p.m.).  To purchase tickets, call the church office at 808-637-9364.
  • UCC–Judd Street (467 N. Judd Street, Honolulu) holds its 58th Annual Lu'au on Saturday, August 16. Proceeds from this pick-up only lu'au benefit Adult Friends for Youth and Susannah Wesley Community Center.  Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased by calling the church office at 808-536-8418.
