Young Adults Invited to Submit Videos

Young adults, 18 to 35, are invited to enter the UCC’s “My Faith, My World, My Voice” video contest introduced at General Synod 2013.  Videos should be sixty seconds long and express what faith means to you and how it impacts your world.  Deadline to enter is October 31, 2013.

Schools Offer Free Flu Vaccination

This fall, participating public and private schools will offer free flu vaccinations to students in kindergarten through eighth grade during the school day.  The aim of the voluntary program, Protect Hawaii’s Keiki: Stop Flu at School, is to improve the health of keiki, families and kupuna by preventing the spread of influenza.

Event Celebrates Henry 'Opukaha'ia Homecoming

The twentieth anniversary of the return of Henry 'Opukaha'ia to Hawai'i will be celebrated at Kahikolu Congregational Church (Napo'opo'o Road) on Saturday, August 17, at 10 a.m. In 1993, Henry’s remains were transferred from Cornwall, Connecticut, to his final resting place at Kahikolu Church.  RSVP to Deborah Lee by email at keoheolahou@yahoo.com or by phone at 808-443-1268 if you plan to attend.

Praise J.A.M. Features Hip-Hop Artist

Christian hip-hop artist Jason Chu will be featured at a Praise J.A.M. at Church of the Holy Cross (440 West Lanikaula Street, Hilo) on Friday, August 23, 6-9:30 p.m. Churches are invited to come and share praises at this event hosted by Church of the Holy Cross and Kalapana Mauna Kea Church.

Workshop Examines Call to Ministry

The Tri-Isle Association is sponsoring a workshop on “Call and Discernment,” on Sunday, August 25, 2-4 p.m., at Wailuku Union Church (327 South High Street, Wailuku).  Leading the workshop is Stephen Boyd, UCC Minister for Chaplains and Specialized Ministries, who will discuss the discernment process, the call to pastoral ministry, multiple paths to ministry, mentoring and training.  For more information, contact Robb Kojima by email at r.kojima@hawaiiantel.net or by phone at 808-244-9177.

Support Veterans’ Readjustment from War

Clergy and religious leaders are invited to a workshop on understanding the invisible wounds of war, including PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), mild traumatic brain injury, and increased use of alcohol or drugs.  The workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Marine Corps Base Hawai'i, Kaneohe Bay.  For information and to register click HERE.  Space is limited for this free workshop.

Pastoral Transitions

Retired minister Donald Asman will assume preaching and pastoral responsibilities at Waiokeola Congregational Church from August 11 to September 12 while church pastor Chris Eng is on sabbatical.  Don follows Edward “Ted” Robinson, who filled these roles for the last two months.
