UCC Will Support Philippines After Typhoon

Thirteen months after Typhoon Haiyan, the Philippines have been hit by Typhoon Hagupit.  UCC Disaster Ministries will support emergency relief and long-term recovery in order to assist families in rebuilding homes and restoring livelihoods destroyed by these major storms.  Find out more and make a donation.

UCC Leaders Respond to Ferguson and New York Events

Conference and national staff persons, gathered last week in Savannah, Georgia, issued a letter to the church addressing the deaths of civilians at the hands of police in Ferguson, Missouri, and New York City.  With the letter is a litany for churches to consider using during Advent services.

Conference Foundation Partners with Nature Conservancy

The Nature Conservancy will conserve, manage and interpret a 922-acre property north of Hilo off the Saddle Road owned by the Hawai'i Conference Foundation.  A ceremony of blessing for the land and the partnership was held on November 25 at the site. Huialoha Church in the News

Huialoha Congregational Church in Kaupo, Maui, was recently featured in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.  The article shares recollections of Carl Lindquist, who organized renovations of the church beginning in 1978, from the book, Pohaku: The Art & Architecture of Stonework in Hawai'i (2003).  The church is celebrating its 155th anniversary in 2014.

Churches Reminded to Remit Offerings by January 9

Next Wednesday's December 17 edition of the Coconut Wireless will be the last for 2014.  If your church would like to announce Advent or Christmas events, or other stories, send submissions by December 15 to coconutwireless@hcucc.org.


Waiokeola Moves Service for Marathon

Due to the Honolulu Marathon, which passes directly in front of the church, Waiokeola Congregational Church (4705 Kilauea Avenue, Honolulu) will not hold morning worship on Sunday, December 14.  Instead, the congregation will gather for a Family Advent Celebration on Saturday, December 13, from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

 Kawaiaha'o Presents Living Nativity

Kawaiaha'o Church (957 Punchbowl Street) will present “A Living Nativity” on various dates in December from 7 to 9 p.m.  Hula and music will also be a part of each evening’s presentation.
