Mission and Evangelism in Word and Practice

This last week in Manila, Philippines, Conference Minister Charles Buck, representing the UCC, joined over 200 delegates from around the world to help prepare a major new statement on mission and evangelism for the World Council of Churches General Assembly in 2013. Click HERE to read more. Delegates also visited local ministries where mission and evangelism are played out. Charles visited Smokey Mountain, a village built on a garbage dumpsite. Reserve Your Seat for Investors Workshop

One of the presentations will be on OikoCredit, which lends working capital to micro-finance institutions around the world, that in turn provide loans to the poor and disadvantaged. Maundy Thursday at Windward UCC

Windward United Church of Christ (38 Kaneohe Bay Drive, Kailua, O'ahu) will hold a Maundy Thursday Soup Supper and Tenebrae (Shadows) Service on April 5. Soup Supper begins at 6 p.m., followed by the service at 7 p.m.

Lord’s Supper at Ka Hana O Ke Akua

Ka Hana O Ke Akua Church UCC (Lualualei Homestead Road, one mile mauka of Farrington Highway in Wai'anae) will celebrate the Lord’s Supper with foot washing on Maundy Thursday, April 5 at 7 p.m. For more information contact Kahu David Twigg at leatavita@hawaii.rr.com.

Good Friday Concert

“Celebration of Christ’s Passion,” a musical concert, will take place at Kawaiaha'o Church on Good Friday, April 6, at 11 a.m. The program will feature a 60-voice chorale, Halau Hula O Kawaiaha'o, guest vocalists and musicians. Windward Coalition Good Friday Service

Windward Coalition of Churches will sponsor a Good Friday service at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church (93 North Kainalu Drive, Kailua, O'ahu) on Good Friday, April 6 at 12 p.m. Windward churches include Windward UCC, Kailua Christian Church, Chuukese Congregational Church of Christ, Vai Ole Ola O Kailua and Windward Samoan CCC.

Good Friday at Kaumakapili

Kaumakapili Church (766 N. King Street, Honolulu) will hold a service of penitence and forgiveness on Good Friday, April 6 at 6:30 p.m. The service will feature "In Calvary's Shadow: A Tenebrae Service," by Victor C. Johnson, which depicts the experience of Jesus' journey from betrayal to crucifixion through music and dramatic readings.

Good Friday at Waiokeola

Waiokeola Congregational Church (4705 Kilauea Avenue, Honolulu) will host a Good Friday Fellowship Soup Supper on April 6 at 6 p.m., followed by Tenebrae Service at 7 p.m.


Annual Ecumenical Service at Punchbowl

The 111th Annual Easter Sunrise Service at the National Memorial of the Pacific at Punchbowl will begin at 6:15 a.m. on Easter Sunday, April 8. Guest speaker for this long-running ecumenical service is the Rev. George Scott, a UCC minister, chaplain at Punahou School, and part-time Youth Minister at Central Union Church. Also participating in the service are the Royal Hawaiian Band and the Central Union Youth Choir. For additional information, click HERE.


The Easter Sunrise Worship Service at Ka Hana O Ke Akua UCC (Lualualei Homestead Road, one mile mauka of Farrington Highway in Waianae) will begin on Sunday, April 8, at 6:30 a.m., as the sun rises over the Waianae Mountain range.

Halona Blowhole

Nu'uanu Congregational Church and Hawai'i Kai United Church of Christ will celebrate Easter with a joint sunrise service at Halona Blowhole Lookout on Sunday, April 8, beginning at 6 a.m.
