Conference Staff Attend World Council Assembly

Conference Minister Charles Buck and staff associate Ken Makuakane will be among twenty-one UCC participants at the General Assembly of the World Council of Churches taking place in Busan, South Korea, from October 28 to November 8.  Over four thousand persons representing about 350 churches will gather from around the world to attend this meeting held every seven years.  Ken will make a hula presentation on November 6 at 1:15 p.m. local time (6:15 p.m. Hawai'i time).  You can find out more about the Assembly and follow live-streaming of some of the events at the WCC website.


Livestream Event Introduces Family Resource

A livestream event sponsored by the United Church of Christ will introduce families to a new resource, “Homegrown Faith and Justice,” which explores the unique role of parents and guardians in raising children with faith, empathy, a sense of fairness and the courage to act justly.  The livestream will take place on Friday, November 22, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Hawai'i time).  For more information contact Kelly Burd by email at burdk@ucc.org or by phone at 216-736-3714.


Summer Chaplains Needed at Chautauqua

UCC clergy are invited to serve as summer chaplains at Chautauqua United Church of Christ Society in New York.  Nine people will be selected to serve one week each in the summer of 2014.  For more information and to apply, visit the Chautauqua UCC Society website at www.cuccs.org.  Deadline for online applications is November 30.

UCC Transition House Hosts Fundraiser

UCC Transition House will hold a benefit dinner on Thursday, November 7, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Makiki Christian Church (829 Pensacola Street, Honolulu).  Tickets are $40.  For more information or to purchase tickets, contact Meg at 808-848-2027.  Deadline to purchase tickets is October 24.


O'ahu Church Holds Fall Fair

Church of the Crossroads (1212 University Avenue, Honolulu) will hold its Fall Fair on Saturday, November 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Food (chicken, sushi, noodles, crepes, baked goods), finds (clothing, appliances, jewelry, books, CDs, crafts, and more) and silent auction are featured.  Call the church office at 808-949-2220 for more information.


Nu'uanu Church Holds Worm Workshops

The Ulu Wai Ministry of Nu'uanu Congregational Church (2651 Pali Highway, Honolulu) will hold two workshops on the topic, “Worms with a Side Order of Greens II,” by worm “guru” Ralph Rhoads on Sunday, November 10, 6:30 p.m., and Tuesday, November 12, 9 a.m.  The workshops are free but registration is required.
