Try Carbon Fasting for Lent

Looking to give up something for Lent? Try a carbon fast! Sign up, and then each day of Lent  you will receive an email suggesting an activity that reduces the amount of carbon put into the air. Email messages will be sent through Easter, March 31. Click HERE to find out more and to sign up.

Kahu Subsidy Fund Assists Hawaiian Churches

The Kahu Subsidy Fund, administered by the Association of Hawaiian Evangelical Churches, provides support to small membership Hawaiian churches for their ministers’ expenses.  For further information and application form, click HERE.  Application deadline is March 8.

Webinars Look at Part-Time Ministry

Two webinars sponsored by Parish Resource Centers of Long Island, will look at the issues of part-time ministry in congregations. Hosting the webinars will be Bob LaRochelle, author of Part Time Pastor, Full Time Church.
  • “A Church Calls a Part Time Pastor,” on Tuesday, March 5, 2-3 p.m. (Hawai'i time) will focus on churches considering hiring a part-time pastor. Click HERE for more information and registration.
  • “The Part Time Pastor,” on Tuesday, March 12, 2-3 p.m. (Hawai'i time) will explore the realistic expectations for a pastor in a part-time pastoral setting.  Click HERE for more information and registration.

Obookiah Memoirs Launches on Kaua'i

The Woman's Board of Missions for the Pacific Islands is hosting a book launch, dedication and book signing of the historic Memoirs of Henry Obookiah on Thursday, March 21, 6 to 8 p.m., at Lihue United Church (4340 Nawiliwili Rd, Lihue).  Click HERE for the flyer.

  • Maui News featured Linda Mau of Lana'i Union Church, who became full-time public health nurse on the island of Lana'i last October.  Click HERE to read the February 11 article.  
  • Danicia Honda of First Chinese Church of Christ argues on the Honolulu Star-Advertiser website for having students evaluate teacher effectiveness.  A Pearl City High School senior, Danicia is a student member of the Hawai'i Board of Education. Click HERE to read the article.
