Hurricane Iselle Update

The impact of Hurricane Iselle was felt mostly on Hawai'i Island.  Churches there reported some damage and loss of electricity and power.  We are thankful that the storm’s impact wasn’t greater and offer prayers for those living in the Puna area who continue to be without electricity and power.

Conference Office Closed this Friday

The Conference Office will be closed this Friday, August 15, in observance of Admissions Day.

Nominate Youth/Young Adult for General Synod

Hawai'i Conference will send eleven delegates to General Synod in 2015.  Ten delegates are chosen by the five associations (two each), and the eleventh has been designated by the Conference Council as an at-large, youth/young adult position.   Nominees must be members of their church, age 30 or under, and able to attend General Synod on June 25-30, 2015, in Cleveland.  Nominations must be received by October 1, 2014, in order for the Conference Council to elect the delegate at its meeting on November 1. 

Directory Lists Human Services Agencies 

The Finding Help Human Services Directory contains phone numbers and websites for over 500 agencies, programs, and institutions covering alcohol and drug abuse services, elder and senior services, domestic violence programs, and more.  The directory, compiled by Mental Health America of Hawai'i, is available on-line and can be downloaded and printed.

Join Conversation About Refugee Youth

Crossing Borders is a public conversation about the refugee youth from Central American countries coming to the United States. Sponsored by the Hawai'i People's Fund, the event will be held on Thursday, August 14, 6-8 p.m., at Paki Hale (3840 Paki Avenue). 

UCC Joins People’s Climate March

On September 21, heads of state from around the world will head to New York City to participate in a United Nations summit on climate change.  The United Church of Christ has joined with other religious communities in a People’s Climate March to coincide with the summit to show support for the planet. Church communities are invited to participate by signing the Faith Climate Petition or hosting a local event.

Windward Church Seeks Director of Music Ministries

Experienced church musician is needed 6-8 hours per week to perform worship service music on piano and organ, lead a volunteer adult choir, accompany soloists, and assist pastor in worship planning.
