Register by January 16 for the Church Leaders Event to take place on Saturday, February 2, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Nu'uanu Congregational Church (2651 Pali Highway).  This year’s event features workshops led by UCC conference attorneys.  Keynote speakers are Donald Clark, UCC General Counsel, and Cathy Green, President of the United Church Insurance Board.  Cost is $25 for O'ahu attendees and $85 for Neighbor Island attendees (includes airfare).  Click HERE to download the information and registration form mailed to churches.  Click HERE to register on-line now.

Clergy Invited to Retreat on Hawai'i Island

Hawai'i Island Association is hosting a Clergy Retreat for all Hawai'i Conference clergy from March 4 to 6, 2013, at the Courtyard King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel.  Theme of the retreat is “Re-visioning Ancient Practices: Almsgiving, Prayer, Fasting.”  Click HERE to download the information and registration form mailed out to pastors last week.  Or to register and pay online, click HERE

Send in Yearbook Forms and Win a Prize!

UCC Yearbook forms were mailed to churches last week.  Please submit these important forms as soon as possible before February 22.  As an incentive, churches submitting completed forms by the deadline will be entered into a drawing to win one of five gift certificates.  Contact Lori Yamashiro at lyamashiro@hcucc.org or 808-791-5645 if you did not receive your forms or if you have questions.

UCC History and Polity Offered Online

Two online courses on UCC History and Polity are being offered this spring.
  • The Center for Progressive Renewal and PATHWAYS, a program of the Southeast Conference UCC, are offering an online UCC History and Polity course from January 30 to May 1, 2013.  The course is taught by Southeast Conference Minister Timothy Downs.  Cost for the 12-week course is $600.   • Chicago Theological Seminary is offering an online United Church of Christ History & Polity course from February 4 to May 17, 2013.  The course will be taught by former UCC General Minister and President John Thomas. Crossroads Announces Peacemaker Award Recipient

Church of the Crossroads will present its Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Peacemaker Award to Kyle Kajihiro, an Hawaiian sovereignty, demilitarization, and LBGT activist.  He will be honored on Monday, January 21, 7 p.m., at Church of the Crossroads (1212 University Avenue, Honolulu).  For more information, click HERE or contact the church office at 808-949-2220 or ccrhi@hawaii.rr.com.

AHEC Invites Scholarship Applications

The Association of Hawaiian Evangelical Churches invites seminarians, clergy and lay leaders in good standing with an AHEC church to apply for the Kahu Leilani M. Train for Congregation-Based Community Organizing

UCC church members may apply for scholarships to attend trainings for Congregation-based Community Organizing (CBCO), which helps churches engage in the public square while strengthening their congregational life and mission. Waimea UCC Parade Float Honored

Congratulations to Waimea UCC and its float, entered in the Waimea Christmas Light Parade last month, which received Second Place in the “Brightness” category.  A picture of the float was also featured on the front page of the Garden Island News the day after the parade.

Ecumenical Service for Christian Unity

All are invited to the annual ecumenical service observing the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity to be held Tuesday, January 24, 6:30 p.m., at Our Lady of Peace Cathedral (1184 Bishop Street, Honolulu). Hawai'i Island 'Aha Mokupuni

Hawai'i Island Association will hold its next 'Aha Mokupuni on Saturday, January 19, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Church of the Holy Cross (440 West Lanikaula Street, Hilo).  The agenda includes UCC Insurance Agent David Takagi talking about church insurance matters.  Click HERE for the flyer. 

Maui Pastor to Be Installed

The Tri-Isle Association will install Jori Lokjob as Pastor of the Maui Marshallese Ministry on Sunday, January 20, 3 p.m., at Kahului Union Church (101 West Kamehameha Avenue, Kahului).

Worms Work!
