NIN Accepting Grant Applications

Justice and Witness Ministries of the United Church of Christ is accepting applications for Neighbors in Need grants to support ministries of famine relief and food-related justice throughout the world.  Grants are funded from the “Mission:1” campaign, an all-church initiative last November that raised more than a quarter of a million dollars.  Last spring 51 churches received grants, including Koloa Union Church which was awarded $1,000 for its Food Bag program.  Click HERE for more information and to apply.  The fall application deadline is September 30.

Webinars to Help Keep Church Safe

The Insurance Board (IB) has announced an upcoming webinar on abuse prevention to be held twice on September 19 at 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. (HST). The webinar will teach churches about creating a Safe Conduct (formerly called Safe Church) Policy to prevent the exploitation of children and vulnerable adults.  Visit the IB website at or click HERE for a complete list of webinars and to register.

Organize for Worker Justice

Interfaith Worker Justice is holding a week-long training, October 14-19, in Chicago, Illinois, for those interested in learning about community organizing.  Participants will learn about different religious and labor structures, strategies for building an organization and ideas for creative actions in their own communities. All pastors on Maui are invited to an ecumenical continuing education event on Thursday, September 20, from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m., at Wailuku Union Church (327 S. High Street, Wailuku).  Click HERE to learn more.

Mokuaikaua Church Benefit

Mokuaikaua Church is hosting a Benefit Golf Tournament on Saturday, October 6, at the Kona Country Club, Ali'i Mountain Course.  Proceeds from the tournament will be used for repairs and maintenance of the church. Click HERE for more information and to register.

Scott Davis joins the Hawai'i Conference Office staff as Administrative Assistant for Search and Call (churches seeking ministers and ministers seeking churches) and Communications. Scott most recently worked as a reporter for the East Oregonian, a daily newspaper serving East Oregon.
