Help Reduce Carbon Emissions
The National Council of Churches Eco-Justice Program, which works closely with the UCC Justice and Witness Office in Washington D.C., hopes to collect 9,000 comments in support of a new carbon rule being considered by the Environmental Protection Agency that would raise the standards to reduce carbon emissions from power plants. Camp Mokule'ia Offers Internship
Become an intern at Camp Mokule'ia on O'ahu. The internship, for adults ages 18 to 24, runs from August 20, 2012, to June 2013. Housing and monthly stipend are provided. Maui churches are invited to a “Cool Congregations” workshop on reducing their energy footprint through recycling, reusing and renewing. The workshop will be held on Saturday, June 30, 1-5 p.m. at Iao United Church of Christ (2371 West Vineyard Street, Wailuku). In Memory: Roy Ishihara
Retired Pastor Roy Ishihara died June 10 in Kona at the age of 89. Roy was Pastor Emeritus of Central Kona Church in Kealakekua, which he served as Pastor from 1976 to 1988. He was also the founding pastor of Kailua Christian Church on O'ahu and was interim pastor at Lanakila, Kahikolu and Haili Churches. Condolences may be sent to his wife, Dorothy Ishihara, at P.O. Box 300, Kealakekua, HI 96750.
