Registration Deadline Just Two Days Away!

The deadline to register for the February Church Leaders Event and the March Clergy Retreat is this Friday, February 3. Information about both events was sent to churches and pastors and can be viewed on the website through the links below:

Call for Nominations

The Hawai'i Conference Nominating Committee invites nominations of qualified candidates for various volunteer positions in the Hawai'i Conference. Click HERE to view the position descriptions and nominating form, which were mailed to churches and Associations last week. The deadline for submitting nominations is March 2, and forms should be returned to the Conference Office, c/o HCUCC Nominating Committee.

Participate in National Youth Event

Churches that would like to send a youth to the UCC National Youth Event with the group led by Conference staff should contact Conference Minister Charles Buck at or 808-791-5640 (neighbor islands 1-800-734-7610) for details. Over three thousand youth from around the UCC are expected at this event to take place July 10-13 at Purdue University in West Lafeyette, Indiana.

Carbon Fast for Lent

Looking to give up something for Lent? Try a carbon fast! Sign up and each day of Lent, beginning on Ash Wednesday, February 22, you will receive an email message suggesting an activity that reduces the amount of carbon put into the air. Daily emails will continue through Easter Sunday, April 8. Click HERE to find out more and to sign up. 

Craigside Apartment Vacancies

There are several studio, one, and two bedroom apartment units now available for rent at 21 Craigside. Amenities include pool, exercise room, parking and picnic areas. This 48-unit building in Nu'uanu near the Conference Office is owned and managed by the Hawai'i Conference Foundation. The Insurance Board (IB) has announced a new schedule of webinars to help churches be safe. Topics in February include “Adult/Child Interaction 2.0—Why So Many Rules?” and “Convicted Sex Offenders As Congregants 2.0." Recognition Service for Licensed Ministers (Correction)

The date of the Service of Recognition for newly licensed ministers Anela Rosa and Grale Chong was incorrect in last week’s Coconut Wireless. The service will be held on Saturday, February 18, as part of the two-day 'Aha Halawai of the Association of Hawaiian Evangelical Churches.

Methodists Host Annual Britt Lectures

Lovett Weems will be the featured speaker at this year’s Britt Lectures, an annual event sponsored by the Hawai'i District of the United Methodist Church. Dr. Weems, Professor of Church Leadership and Director of the Lewis Center for Church Leadership at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., will give lectures over three evenings, February 17-19, 7 p.m., at First United Methodist Church (1020 S. Beretania Street, Honolulu). He will also lead a workshop for clergy on Monday, February 20, 9 a.m., at the church.  Click HERE for the flyer.

Windward Churches Sponsor Church Growth Event

The Windward Coalition of Churches will host an event for clergy and lay leaders featuring Fred Plumer, a UCC minister and President of the Center for Progressive Christianity. He will speak on church growth and the progressive church at Christ Church Uniting (1300 Kailua Road, Kailua) on Friday evening, March 9, and all day Saturday, March 10. Punchbowl Easter Sunrise Service

George Scott will be the preacher at the 111th Annual Easter Sunrise Service at the National Memorial of the Pacific at Punchbowl on Easter Sunday, April 8. The Rev. Scott is a UCC minister, a chaplain at Punahou School, and youth minister at Central Union Church. The Central Union Youth Choir will also participate in the Sunrise Service.


Waiola Church Member in the News
