Reminder about 2013 Offerings Deadline

Understand Your Retirement Benefits

All church employees, including ministers, church staff, and preschool teachers, who have retirement accounts with the UCC Pension Boards are invited to meet Michael Downs, President and CEO of the Pension Boards, this Saturday, January 11, 9 to 11 a.m., at Central Union Church (1660 South Beretania Street, Honolulu).  He will share information about services and programs, and provide updates and advice for pre-retirement planning.  Click HERE for more information and reservations.

Register for Church Leaders Event

Plan for Kalaupapa Sunday

Delegates to last year’s 'Aha Pae'aina approved a resolution to encourage churches to observe a Kalaupapa Sunday to remember and honor those who were exiled to the remote peninsula.  The suggested date is the last Sunday in January (January 26, 2014).  Resources for Kalaupapa Sunday services can be found on the Conference website

Observe Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

The 2014 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, observed by Christian churches throughout the world, takes place every year between January 18 and 25.  This year’s theme is “Has Christ Divided Us?” and is based on 1 Corinthians 1:13. Churches are encouraged to download resources and join Christians everywhere in praying “that they may all be one.”

Back Bay Mission Invites Volunteers

Interfaith Community Holds Reconciliation Service

The Pacific Justice and Reconciliation Center is sponsoring the 21st Annual Hookuikahi–Reconciliation Service, an interfaith event commemorating the UCC and U.S. apologies in 1993 to the Hawaiian people and celebrating the life of Queen Liliuokalani and her example of justice, reconciliation, and non-violence. The service will be held on January 17, 5:30 p.m., at St. Andrew’s Cathedral (229 Queen Emma Square, Honolulu).

  • Napua McShane Burke will be installed as Pastor and Teacher of the Topside Moloka'i churches—Ho'olehua, Kalaiakamanu Hou, Kalua'aha, and Waialua Churches—on Saturday, January 11, 11 a.m., at Kalaiakamanu Hou Congregational Church in Kaunakakai.
  • Enoch Stephen will be installed as Japanese Language Minister of Kahului Union Church (101 West Kamehameha Avenue, Kahului) on Sunday, January 12, 2 p.m.

O'ahu Association Convenes Ecclesiastical Council

The O'ahu Association will convene an ecclesiastical council on Sunday, February 9, 4 p.m., at Community Church of Honolulu (2345 Nu'uanu Avenue, Honolulu), for the purpose of examining Randy Reynoso for ordination.  Since a quorum is needed, churches should indicate whether they will or will not attend to Diane Weible at or at 808-791-5633.
