Missouri Conference Pastoral Letter Responds to Ferguson Decision

A call for churches to pray is requested in a pastoral letter by Allen Fluent, Acting Conference Minister of the Missouri Mid-South Conference, responding to Monday’s grand jury decision not to indict a white Missouri police officer in the death of an unarmed black teenager in Ferguson, Missouri.

Conference Office Closed for Thanksgiving

In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Conference Office will be closed on Thursday, and Friday, November 27 and 28.

'Aha Pae'aina Dates and Venues Change

A letter to churches sent last week announced new dates and locations for the 193rd 'Aha Pae'aina.
  • The 'Aha Makua (annual meeting of the Hawai'i Conference) will now be held June 12-13, 2015, at the Pagoda Hotel in Honolulu. 
  • The 'Aha Iki of the Association of Hawaiian Evangelical Churches and affiliate organizations will be held June 10-11, 2015, at Kawaiaha'o Church.

Observe World AIDS Day On December 1

World AIDS Day, observed each year on December 1, builds awareness of and promotes a response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic in local communities around the world.  Worship and education resources are available on the UCC website.

Local Churches Hold Vigil for Climate Change

Church of the Crossroads (1212 University Avenue, Honolulu) will host a Light for Lima vigil on Sunday, December 7, 5-7 p.m.  This is part of a global effort to bring together people of faith to pray for world leaders as they gather in Lima, Peru, from December 1 to 12 for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.  Among the co-sponsors are Central Union Church and Church of the Crossroads.

Church Remembers Loved Ones in Christmas Tree Lighting 

Lili'uokalani Protestant Church (66-090 Kamehameha Highway, Haleiwa) will honor those who have died during its 15th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Sunday, December 14. Families and friends are invited to make a $5 donation and submit a name, which will be written on a star ornament and hung on the tree.  Donations ​will be used for scholarships for college and graduate students.  For more information, click HERE.​

“With Their Voices Raised” is a drama that retells the stories of the suffering, sorrow, and survival of Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima survivors.  Churches interested in hosting this production, a program of the Alliance for Drama Education, may contact director George Kon at 808-220-5003, or Moanalua Community Church Pastor Larry Wayman at 808-295-9691.
