South Dakota CAP Plans
Twin Training Exercises

South Dakota Wing of Civil Air Patrol will mission training at East River and West River locations Saturday, Nov. 6. Members participating in the twin exercises will train in the Sioux Falls area and the Black Hills National Forest. The exercises will include skills such as ground team, aircrew, unmanned drone flying, airborne photography, and mission staff training. SDWG Inventory Affirms Stewardship
of Governmental Assets

South Dakota Wing has completed its annual inventory of all CAP property, with no discrepancies. The survey audit is performed each year to ensure that property supplied by federal and state funds is accounted for and managed wisely. (Read more)

Four Units Receive AE Awards

Crazy Horse, Rushmore and Big Sioux Composite Squadrons and Miller Flight have received the Squadron Aerospace Education Achievement Award for commendable AE program performance. (Read more)

Wing Conference Venue Announced

The 2022 South Dakota Wing Conference will be held April 8-10 at the K-Bar-S Lodge near Keystone, SD, COVID safety policy permitting.  The theme of the conference is 65 years since the formal chartering of the wing in 1957.  A day-long Training Leaders of Cadets (TLC) basic course is planned for Friday April 8 as part of the conference.

Professional Development

Now activity and service ribbons can be input by the individual member in the "my account" section of eServices.  There is a service ribbon module that allows them to be entered here and then validated by the commander.  If it’s a decoration like a Meritorious Service Award or something, those can be entered in the Award Recommendation module as historical, or previously approved awards.

Big Sioux Composite Squadron Recognizes
Two Cadets with Recruitment Ribbon

Cadet Airman First Class Gabriel Risty and AirmanSimon Risty, both of Estelline, were recently awarded recruitment ribbons for each successfully recruiting two new youth members, known as cadets, to join Civil Air Patrol. (Read more)

Miller Flight Welcomes New Senior Members

The Miller Flight just received two new senior members - one is a brand-new member and one is a transfer from Minnesota.

SM Clint Haigh is a farmer from Miller SD. His son Jeremiah joined as a cadet this summer. He is eager to start his training and to start working with the cadets. SM Haigh is particularly interested in ES training and accompanying our cadets to various activities. 

2d. Lt. Robert Herschman transferred Hutchinson Composite Squadron, west of the Twin Cities. He recently moved back to the Redfield/Faulkton area. He grew up here before moving to Minnesota. He is rated as a Transport Pilot and Orientation Pilot, and is looking forward to flying in South Dakota.
