Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

You are of course aware that the last 18 months have brought a great deal of attention to our national problem of racial inequity and injustice. Accordingly, many mainline churches including our own Episcopal church have been moving in the direction of increasing their learning and acting in ways that move racial justice forward within the institution.

The Vestry of Holy Trinity has published its own apology and statement of intention in this regard, and we are working to help create an antiracist consciousness in our parish. This is an invitation to you to join our efforts by attending a gathering where we will share the work we have done so far and offer the opportunity for you to become an active member of the Commission.

Moving forward into becoming a church that is fully aware of our history and committed to our responsibility as a Christian community takes both intention and hard work. Present members of the Commission constitute a very small group, and we have realized that the work of bringing change will require more hands, more ideas, and more loving, spiritual energy that only members of our church can give. There is nothing more fulfilling than helping to bring the Kingdom of God into fruition, but we cannot do it by ourselves, nor do we want to. It is a sacred work that deserves our combined efforts.

We invite you to join us in a conversation on Sunday, October 17, to explore ways that we can continue this work together. We hope to see you, together with other invited parishioners interested and engaged in this effort, in Tom’s Garden (outside Broome Hall), from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. If the weather’s uncooperative, we’ll move inside into Broome Hall.

Yours in Christ,

The Beloved Community Commission
