To the Parish:

Starting after Labor Day and for a few weeks, we expect two major projects to be taking place on the Holy Trinity campus.

—Century Slate of Durham will be doing repairs on the slate roofs and most of the walkways of the core buildings (sanctuary, chapel, and parish house). There will be ladders, scaffolding, and service vehicles outside the buildings. This is a deferred maintenance project, to correct deficiencies in the existing slate tiles and ridges.

—Strategic Security Solutions of Raleigh will be installing a new electronically carded & centrally controlled system for entranceways into those same buildings. There will personnel in and out of the buildings and service vehicles outside. This project will significantly improve and streamline security for these building without in any way reducing access on the part of parishioners.

Vestry approved both projects earlier this year, as required, and as affordable using currently available maintenance/capital funds.

Keep these projects in mind as you plan your visits to the campus this month. All reasonable precautions have been taken to avoid both COVID exposure and conflicts with normal use of the buildings, especially with the Day School and services.

Here’s a special note: this slate roof maintenance project is NOT the general leak-remediation project that’s been previously mentioned. That project remains in a testing-and-design phase. Vestry is seeking a long-term fix of the sources of all visible water damage in the sanctuary and chapel buildings. Please bear with us. We hope to have the leak-remediation project designed and communicated to the parish this fall.

Feel free to put any questions about this work to the parish administrator at parishadmin@holy-trinity.com or to me at mthomas@jmtlawgso.com.

Wednesday Night Supper Date Change

Calling New Acolytes

As our program year begins this Sunday, September 12, we are ready to move back to a fuller worship schedule then we’ve experienced throughout the pandemic. We will have 8 a.m., 9 a.m., and 11:15 a.m. each week. We would love to have you join an Acolyte team and serve! You can begin to serve as an Acolyte once you are in the sixth (6th) grade.
Though our regulations can change from week to week, as of now, everyone is required to be masked for the duration of the services. We also recognize that not all of you will feel comfortable coming back even at this stage in the pandemic. This is completely understandable. In order for us to plan the fall, however, please let Annie Slaughter (annie@holy-trinity.com) know by September 15 if you would like to join the Acolyte program. If you don’t come back at this point, but change your mind at some point in the future, you are always welcome!!

Deliver for Meals on Wheels

Volunteers needed Monday, September 20

Hundreds of local seniors are homebound and struggle, especially during a pandemic, to obtain healthy meals and to maintain human connection. YOU CAN HELP! On the third Monday morning of each month, Holy Trinity members and friends are needed to deliver prepared meals and to lovingly connect with our neighbors.

Deliveries are made in teams. This month, we are particularly looking for individuals wishing to be paired up with another congregation member. Click here for information and to sign up or contact Lance Hulme at lancerhulme@aol.com.

Episcopal Relief & Development

On Sunday, August 29, sixteen years after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast, Hurricane Ida made landfall in the same region. This Category 4 storm brought flooding and damaging winds that caused a loss of water to hundreds of thousands and a loss of electricity to over 1 million people. Episcopal Relief & Development is working closely with the Diocese of Louisiana and other regional partners in what will be a long-term response. Your generous gift will help alleviate suffering for the most vulnerable residents impacted by Hurricane Ida. Please visit episcopalrelief.org/hurricane-relief to make a gift today.
