"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength:"
When we stay our minds on the Lord, trusting alone in Him, we will always experience a perfect peace; that peace being the very spirit of Christ dwelling in us and us in Him; that peace of God, which passes all understanding, keeping our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).
You see, we should have no confidence in the flesh, that is, in who we think we are on this earth, or in what we think we have on this earth, our possessions, our status, our reputation, etc. We are nothing and can do nothing without Christ. For He is the vine and we are the branches, and without the vine, the branches just shrivel up and die (John 15:5 ).
Members of the Body of Christ the world over are facing really trying times; physically, emotionally and spiritually. But the Lord would say that we need be anxious for nothing in this life. All we need to do is just bring everything to the Lord in prayer and acknowledge Him in all our ways as we allow our Father in heaven to direct our paths and to show us the path of true life and light through His Son.
Many times we hold onto our own thoughts and preconceived ideas of how God should or shouldn’t be undertaking and directing us. We even easily justify ourselves and our thoughts. However, what we should be asking ourselves is this, ‘Do I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord? Will I suffer the loss of my own reputation and of my own pride and vanity, counting them but dung, that I may win Christ? The things which are gain to me, that is, which I value and cherish on this earth, will I count them loss for Christ? (Philippians 3:7-9)
So today, let us not look on the things of this earth or on our own dreams and ambitions for this life. Rather, let us look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Let us fight the good fight of faith, laying hold on eternal life, to which we have actually been called (1 Timothy 6:12). Let us lay hold upon the hope set before us (Hebrews 6:18): Jesus Christ. And let us stay our minds on Him alone; as it is only in through Jesus Christ that we will be kept in perfect rest and peace.
