Speaking sound doctrine
2 Timothy 4:3
"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;"
Titus 2:1 says that we should speak things which become sound doctrine. Sadly, the problem today is that many do not want to endure and or even hear sound doctrine. Rather, it is easier to hear that which our itching ears want to hear, that which is comfortable for us, that which doesn’t interrupt our lifestyles.
There is much reference to the early church and the modern church of today. Yet we know that the body of Christ is the church and that He is eternal. So there is no early or modern church, just the body of Christ which is the church and which is sound doctrine because Christ inhabits His true church.
The problem is that somehow somewhere, the message has crept in that the church should adapt, compromise, modernise and accommodate in order to be relevant in the 21st century. But this couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, the relevance of Jesus Christ in His time was so out of sync with mankind and with the very children of God, that they actually crucified Jesus - that’s how irrelevant He was.
Now because Christ and His church are inseparable, immortal and eternal, the relevance of the true church of Jesus Christ will never change, adapt and or compromise. As Jesus was falsely accused in many things, so will His church be. As Jesus was rejected by many, including the religious leaders of the day, so His true church and sound doctrine will also be rejected.
As the truth was rejected in the day of Noah, as the people did not enter in because of unbelief in the day of Moses, and as people rejected and crucified the truth, Jesus Christ, who was before their very eyes, so it will be today - “And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”
So today, let us not be swayed, let us not be easily moved and let us not worry what men may say. Rather, let us each be encouraged to hold fast the faithful word that is Jesus Christ, that we may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers and the scoffers in these last days.

Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
