THE FELLOWSHIP OF FARMERS
Winrock Sponsors Historic Visit of Cuban Farmers to the U.S. — the First in 50 Years
Cody Hopkins taught high school physics in Rhode Island before returning home to found a 250-acre sustainable farm in Arkansas. Yurien Bec Jelis lives a thousand miles away in Cuba, where he is president of a farmers’ cooperative that produces everything from building materials to 42 types of fruit. The men don't speak the same language, and they have little else in common. But to watch them interact on a Searcy County field is to understand the fellowship of farmers — a bond that transcends all boundaries.
