Grandma Pearl's Tea Cakes Grows with Help From Cohab

In early April, just a few months after Grandma Pearl passed away at age 91, I sat at my kitchen table for hours pondering my future without “Mommy,” as I had called her all my life. My mother’s mother and grandmother were Shreveporters and had moved to California around 1921, taking the tea cake as a favorite dessert with them.

Black Women in the Arts Brunch 
Over the weekend Mahogany Ensemble Theatre held their 2nd Black Women in the Arts Holiday Brunch. This quarterly event was hosted at Cohab, located in the Red River District in downtown Shreveport. The purpose of this Black Women in the Arts Brunch was to serve as a creative platform for women artists and arts enthusiast of African descent. Attendees enjoyed delicious culinary cuisine, networking, and connecting with dynamic artists throughout Northwest Louisiana.
