GREENS & ROOTS

Welcome to week 23! It's hard to believe just seven weeks remain in our second season. It's been unusually mild this week, and we're treasuring the beautiful display of greens. In the blink of an eye, tender greens will be gone with the last leaves of fall. Enjoy this week's beautiful share!

WHAT'S IN THE BAG THIS WEEK?

Acorn Squash

Acorn squash is a ridged winter squash with a smooth, orange-yellow flesh. It's a great candidate for slicing in half, stuffing and baking. Try Sausage and Apple Stuffed Acorn Squash. Store in a cool, dry and ideally dark place until using.

White Lady Turnips

Sippel Family Farm
This mild and slightly sweet turnip would be great roasted with mushrooms. The greens are great-tasting too; wilt them in the hot pan at the end. Separate the globes and greens before storing in a sealed bag in the fridge.

Japanese Sweet Potatoes

Wayward Seed Farm
Japanese sweet potatoes have a purple flesh and a golden yellow flesh. They'll convert anyone into a lover of sweet potatoes! Great simply baked with butter and salt, they also shine in a curry. Store in a dry, cool place out of direct light.

Arugula

This bunched arugula has heft and peppery flavor. Its tang shines in salads and sandwiches. Simply dress it with lemon, olive oil and Parmesan. It also makes excellent pesto. Place a paper towel in the bag for storing in the fridge..

Collards

Clay Hill Farm
Collards are kale's milder, smoother cousin. Check out five new (and lighter) ways to enjoy them, thanks to The New York Times. Store in a bag in the crisper for up to a week. Wash when using.

Fingerling Potatoes

Wayward Seed Farm
These golden fingerlings are the perfect addition to your weekend brunch, especially if you add in a little duck fatDon't peel them; wash gently before using. Store in a cool and dark place.

Spinach

Sunbeam Family Farm
This crisp, cool-weather green makes a perfect Spinach Salad with Roasted Fall Vegetables. Store in its bag in the crisper, wash and spin just before eating.

Rolled Oats

These Ohio-grown, organic rolled oats can be a breakfast bowl on the go, or the makings of a great one-bowl dessert. Store in the pantry until ready to us.
