MASTERS & GENTLEMEN Over the past few Months Atlantic Beach Links Club entered and played in the Western Province Masters League. To enter, players must be registered as a full golfing member and have an active handicap at their home club. Players aged 50(fifty) and above are eligible to compete in Masters League Matches, which are played off scratch handicap.
The Competition includes a series of 6 games played with a bye. All Western Province clubs enter teams, which then are drawn into a group A and Group B. The top two Teams in each group then qualify for the semi-finals. The winners then move on to the final, played at Metropolitan Golf Club on 2nd May 2021. After four months of competition, with some outstanding golf played, Atlantic Beach Links Masters League players finished runner up in group B with 13 points. This milestone means that this will be the first time Atlantic Beach Links qualified for the semi-finals. This achievement by the Masters Team has shown pure determination, camaraderie and above all commitment.
As management, we cannot be more proud of receiving such positive feedback from the Western Province Golf Union on the Masters Team being such gentlemen in the game.
Saturday, 17 April, the Masters League face the Semi-Final against King David Mowbray Golf Club, who are the defending Champions. We wish our Marsters League the very best and know you will make us proud.
The winning partnership with our league clothing sponsor Pam Golding Properties - Western Seaboard continues.
Feedback on Leisure Centre/ Academy and other developments currently underway
Renovation work at the Leisure Centre is coming on very well and includes the remodelling of the gym into one much larger gym facility, the introduction of a dedicated Pilates/yoga room, the establishment of Biokinetics facility and the introduction of a Golf Academy. To accommodate the readers amongst us we are also including a larger book exchange area where residents can come to exchange or loan books of various topics, which we aim to be an extension of the smaller book exchanges situated near the beach and main gate entrances.
We hope to complete these renovations by month end so we can move the gym and other services back to the centre asap. The introduction of a proper golf academy and ancillary facilities is an important addition to the many services already being offered to residents and members and we envisage will play a significant role in the development of both golf and golf club membership. Junior golf is of course a focus, but we are confident that these facilities will also play a big role in encouraging new golfers to the game and in particular lady golfers, which has seen a huge increase in popularity worldwide.
The viability and attractiveness of the golf club and facilities, in addition to our other lifestyle offerings, is a very important factor in making the club and resultantly the estate a very viable and attractive proposition.
If you have been down to the driving range you would have noticed that work has begun on the new practice putting green and undercover driving range hitting bays which will not only serve to provide residents with better facilities, but also serve in support of the envisaged golf academy. Once this project is completed, we believe Atlantic Beach will have one of the most progressive club practice and training facilities available.
In reply to our invitation for academy operator proposals, we were fortunate to receive five very promising proposals whom in conjunction with the Links Committee will now be considered and interviewed with the prospect of concluding an agreement with the elected incumbent whom, both in respect of their golf tuition and financial viability, will offer the best prospect for the Club and Estate.
We would like to remind owners and members that our impetus for the implementation of these supplementary facilities on the estate is to increase value, both in respect of owner’s and members investments as well as lifestyle offering.
As communicated before, we devised our strategy in respect of demand around the responses received from owners and members in last year’s survey, which specifically obtained from owners their views on what they would consider beneficial. The kids play area at the Clubhouse, the Deli/coffee shop complete with work bays and other specific offerings and the relatively upmarket family style restaurant facilities as well as the choice of operators where specifically designed around your responses received.
In response to our questions posed in last years survey, “which of the following conveniences in and around the clubhouse would you and your family be likely to support”, the top 10 responses looked as follows and in order of preference were:
Gym and Pilates/Yoga facility
Spa & Beauty Salon
Driving range & training academy
Physio, Chiropractor, weight loss centre, private training, and other wellness type practices
Car wash service
Cycling or Surfing goods sales and repair outlet
Small interior decoration, clothing and other boutique outlets
Items 1, 3, 4 and 8 we are in the process of dealing with by way of the current renovations taking place at the Leisure Centre and explained above.
In respect of a facility which will provide for preferences 2 and 7, we have commenced construction of the Atlantic Beach Boutique by Swaggers House of Beauty, who we are excited to announce will be providing the following Hair and beauty services to residents, members, and guests, both male and female of all ages:
The envisaged Atlantic Beach Boutique’s location will be at the front entrance as illustrated below:
In due course we will communicate in greater detail these additional lifestyle service offerings, including some further planned services, which we hope to secure such as a carwash and golf cart service/sales/hire center.

WELCOMING THE NEW NORMAL
We have eagerly been working on a corporate golf event video that perfectly encapsulates the very best aspects that our members with businesses and corporate clients can experience when next hosting guests at Atlantic Beach Links.
We are passionate about making our golf course and facilities the new platform for businesses, clients and suppliers to connect with each other in a safe, open, yet intimate environment that still offers a relaxing atmosphere. And who can argue the view from our “boardroom”
It was a great pleasure in having some of our very own members form part of the video and bring it to life.
A special thank you to Sharon Watkins, Ali Demery, Nedine Pieters, Owen Mbundu, Raymond Dodgen, Nigel Pillay & Robbie van Heerden.
We are very proud to share our corporate golf video with our members first.

WP WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS
The prestigious Western Province Women’s Amateur Championships saw one of the largest entries by Atlantic Beach Links.
Teeing up in the field of South Africa’s top amateurs in Sunday’s 36 hole stroke play Championship at Steenberg were Ashleigh Mills and Marlé O’Reilly (Championship Division) and Candice Woodbridge, Sharon Mills, Sonya Behrens, Pam Welz and Alicia Bezuidenhout in the Silver Division. Up for grabs for the top 16 in the Championship Division and Top 8 (Silver Division) would be a place in the Match Play Amateur Championship.
Playing in her first Western Province Women’s Amateur Championship, Marlé qualified for the Championship Flight match play and faced a strong opponent in Chloe Valkin (Wanderers Golf Club) who won Monday’s quarter-final match. In the Silver Division, Tyla finished T17 and Sonya solo 20th. An awesome effort by our ladies with support from their caddies - Greg Woodbridge on the bag for Candice and Justin Behrens alongside his mother Sonya.
