BOCC Recap for July 15 Meeting
BY COMMISSIONER TARKANIAN

The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) heard a presentation comparing Planning, Engineering and Building Permit fees for Douglas County to several of the surrounding counties. The presentation showed that Douglas County’s fees are mostly higher than the rural counties but lower than Washoe County.

It was also disclosed that the fees in Douglas County have not increased since 2018. The BOCC voted to have staff prepare a plan to increase fees 5% across the board. This item will be brought back to the Board for discussion and a vote at the next meeting.

The BOCC also heard a presentation of a proposed annexation of 29 acres of County land to the Town of Gardnerville. Since this was a first reading no vote was taken. This item will be brought back to the BOCC for a second reading where a vote will take place.

The BOCC reviewed a proposed revision of Title 20 to better regulate potential public nuisances related to golf courses and open spaces. The Board determined that the language used to describe open space was too vague and asked staff to revise it.
