Mentoring and Advocacy Saturday Gathering
New Initiatives

The MacArthur Foundation awarded St. Louis County$2.2 million over 2 years to create innovative solutions to reduce over-reliance on jails. UMSL is the academic partner, and will be collecting data on the program.

CWIT is excited to be working with St. Louis County Justice Center, Missouri Probation and Parole, and numerous other community providers to assist women under this grant.

  • Women are enrolled in the agency’s Mentoring and Advocacy program, and may live at the Baker House.
  • CWIT partners with a variety of other agencies to promote client success, including Queen of Peace Center, Provident, and Bridgeway.
  • CWIT provides case management, life skills, mentoring, and basic needs to program participants.
Peyton
VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH!
If you have visited the Center's main office in the last year on a Wednesday or Thursday, it is likely you have crossed paths with Peyton. Consistent, reliable, and always ready with a smile and positive attitude, no task is too big or too small. When asked why she gives her time to the Center, Peyton simply stated, "I have seen firsthand the difficulties getting back on your feet after making a mistake and understand the importance of the tools and support that CWIT has to offer. It has been an amazing learning experience and very fulfilling". It is truly the commitment of community members like Peyton that allows the Center to serve the St. Louis community the way that it does.

If you are interested in volunteering with CWIT, contact Kellie Roberts either by phone or email.

Passing the Baton
Carrie Coats, Development Director from March of 2014 to August 2016, was a vital member of the CWIT team. She helped to move the Center from a time of financial uncertainty to one of stability and expansion. Carrie's time at CWIT inspired her to begin a new path, studying for a master's degree in Social Work from the Brown School. As she takes steps into the next era of her life, she will be greatly missed.

The Center was fortunate to have full time VISTA members serving alongside Carrie in Development. One of those women, Kellie Roberts, was offered and accepted the position of Development Director. With months of training alongside Carrie, Kellie (who officially took on the role August 15th) has hit the ground running and is excited about the year to come.

Kellie joins us from the west coast having lived in Oregon, Idaho, and Hawaii. She has worked in non-profits for many years, with experience ranging from mental health, domestic violence and sexual assault, to research: Kellie brings many diverse skills to her new position. Please join us in welcoming Kellie to the CWIT team.
Thank you to our grant funding organizations!
Certain project costs have been underwritten by the Missouri Department of Economic Development, Neighborhood Assistance Program.
