The world is changing and all forms of recreation are being impacted. The busyness of families – time constraints due to other activities – financial concerns and other options have all had an impact on our industry. Our industry has been hit very hard. There are a lot of discussion groups searching for ideas to change the flow of activity. New idea sharing on how to grow the game.
The Stonehouse Golf Group – is working with Golf Clubs around the region and across the Country to help find solutions to their needs. In most cases it is a combination of things that need to change and be done differently:
Too many clubs have sat back hoping this next season will be better and have not seen that happen. More time is taken to explain why last year was down – rather than how we can change that trend.
We are seeing courses that are taking aggressive action to attract new customers and maintain their old business are doing well.
It is tough to make up a 25% loss of business in those early weeks but we are hearing of some clubs coming back strong for the last half of the season. You have got to work it – your whole team has to be onside and doing their part…
If you think this might be something that would work for you and your Club you can talk to us we will assist you in reviewing your situation and Clubs that might be a good fit for yours. In some cases it is as simple as an operational working relationship – other times it is management contract and sometimes a purchase and sale agreement.
It seems our Tourism Departments and our Golf Marketing Groups have avoided going after the lucrative American Market so close to us. We are encouraging these very same groups to take another look at the interest Americans have for Canada – they love the site-seeing – the people – the open spaces and especially the great Golf Courses we have to offer.
Courses need to understand and be able to make it easy for visitors to come and enjoy their golf course – quality rental clubs – well in advance bookings – assistance with accommodations…
At a time when there is not many new golf courses being built across North America – Nova Scotia is totally bucking that trend. 2014 is going to be a big year with 4 new courses under construction in this Province alone. The Development projects that they are part of will create major Economic Impact for the communities they are in as well as the Province as a whole.
There are a variety of profile Golf Course Architects and design groups including Nicklaus, Crenshaw, McBroom and LeBlanc.
It will be interesting to see the impact of these new courses on the marketplace – it will be 2015 before any of these are open and ready to go. Will be important for existing courses to be ready for these new entries in the marketplace and be able to take advantage of the major marketing they will generate for Golf.
In most cases they will help attract new golfers to the region as well hopefully bring new golfers into the game – If you are needing help to make sure that your operation is ready for this change in the marketplace give us a call…
In many cases it is hard for owners, managers or boards to really look objectively at their Golf Clubs to see and understand what needs to be changed to make them more sustainable and then profitable. It is common to look through rose coloured glasses at your own golf course.
The Stonehouse Golf Group has been assisting Golf Clubs to "look from without" for 20+ years often seeing things that ownership and management are too close to see - We would be happy to come and meet with you and see if there are ways we might assist your operation. Operational Review – Strategic Planning Process – New Development Opportunities – Strategic Partnerships – Debt Reduction Plans - Exit Strategies for owners…
Mystery Shopper Program
We also have a mystery shopper program that can be very beneficial for you to see from an outside golfers perspective what your operation is really like. Talk to us early in the season and we can work with you to implement this program. We usually use 6 x twosomes over the course of a couple of months. They come un-announced play your course – use your facilities – fill out a report and turn it back into us with comments – we then collect all of the reports and provide you with a full review. This is a great exercise that every course should do annually.
