Issue No. 28
THE MAYOR'S MISSIVE

We have taken another step on the path to consolidation. A joint meeting of the city councils of both Sun Valley and Ketchum demonstrated that there is much to be gained from working together.

With consolidation, we will have more fire, police and ambulance coverage throughout our two cities at all times. We will improve response times. We will share the substantial cost of our apparatus (ladder trucks etc.) and enhance the professional development opportunities for our first responders. Next week both councils will be asked to vote on whether to proceed. I hope we can take the next step and get their approval.

Call Ketchum “crazy,” but we are putting the snow back onto the streets.  Just when you thought our crews were spending enough time plowing the roads, we are putting snow back onto East Avenue (for a day). There is plenty to celebrate – a great winter season, a film festival and a visit by the junior ski racers for the Western Region Championships. What better way to enjoy ourselves than to close the road, bring in some snow, make a few jumps, roll in the firepits and let the music play? The event is to “Celebrate the Spirit of Ketchum."  A celebration of our love of the snow, the mountains, the athletes and the culture of our authentic ski town. So please stop by and enjoy the fun on Thursday, March 14, at 6.30pm.

Let’s keep Ketchum a little bit crazy!

Cheers,
Neil

THINGS TO KNOW
SUSTAINABILITY NOTES

The Ketchum Sustainability Advisory Committee is at work! They want you to know this tidbit going into March: buying in bulk is great, until you’re talking water - Ketchum has a tiered water system, so the more you use, the more you pay.

WATER YOU GONNA DO?

Don’t let the pow stop you from planning ahead - while our snow pack numbers are still comparably low to 2017, it's still a good idea to keep spring flooding on your radar. It’s hard to tell how severe flooding might be, but you can contact participate@ketchumidaho.org to learn if your property is in a flood zone. Of course, we’ll keep you up to date here on the Word.

JOIN OUR FORCES
We have several openings for year-round, seasonal, and part- and full-time work. You’ll get to contribute to the ongoing betterment of this town in addition to joining bright, hard working (and humble!) colleagues.

BENT OUT OF SHAPE

Barrett’s Rules, the flying plane sculpture installed at Hemingway Steam School, has bent due to heavy snow load. It’s down to prevent further damage, but we’ll get it fixed once the snow stops falling!

YES, THEY'RE EVERYWHERE ...

... and we know it! Give the street crew time to finish clearing, scraping and widening streets (and get a little well-deserved rest), and they'll start filling potholes - as long as Mother Nature cooperates!
