Yoga for both your new year and perennial needs

New Class on Tuesdays at 5:30p

Jane Alexander headshotEvening yogis rejoice!  We have a new 5:30-6:30p Tuesday class starting this week with Jane Alexander. She is a yoga therapist with experience supporting recovery of all kinds, whether from surgery, illness or addiction.  You can learn more about her here.

The class will follow Sarah's Friday format of "Steady and Strong Yoga", with a particular focus on core strength.  This means much more than just ab work!  Jane is especially savvy to the role of the pelvic floor in supporting the rest of the central axis, and her class will be an excellent addition to our biomechanics-savvy weekly offerings.  You can attend in person (it's nice!) or via Zoom.

New Series with Rhoda

Our yoga therapy lineup is expanding to include an innovative approach to managing chronic pain.  (It also happens to work wonders for chronic tension and anxiety.). Rhoda and I did a brief Zoom chat about it, if you'd like hear more about it:
A short interview with Rhoda about managing chronic pain with yoga and mindfulness
Living with chronic pain is frustrating and exhausting. Once-enjoyable experiences become shadowed with discomfort or impossible. Doctors can do little besides offer medication and surgery, which may not work or cause new problems. The world of alternative medicine is vast and confusing, often involving expensive supplements or therapies of unknown effectiveness.

Many have found yoga and mindfulness practices to be powerful tools for reducing or resolving chronic pain and tension patterns. Not only are they affordable and accessible, they affirm our capacity to heal ourselves.

In this 4-week workshop, Rhoda Miriam will share a set of practices she has found helpful for working with her own chronic pain.

  • Rebalancing muscle tension through gentle, sustained yoga poses;
  • Deep nervous system relaxation through breathing techniques and guided relaxation (yoga nidra);
  • Pain Reprocessing Therapy, a method for reprogramming the brain’s neural pathways through mindful attention, thereby shifting the experience of painful symptoms.

All sessions take place on Zoom and will be recorded for those who cannot attend live.

Participants may wish to schedule a one-on-one yoga therapy session with Rhoda where she can customize the practices for individual circumstances. She will offer a discounted rate for up to 30 days after the series concludes.

Cost: $95 / members save 15% / sliding scale gladly offered

Potential Mindbody Bogusness

Due to tech giant turf battles, you may have difficulty buying new classes through the Mindbody app. If this happens, please buy your classes through our website.  You will still be able to book classes through the app, once you purchase them.

Basically, Apple wants to extract a 30% fees on any digital service purchased through an app. Since some of our classes are now "virtual", Apple has decided they count as digital services and are thus subject to this fee.  Mindbody is trying to negotiate a change to this policy, but in the meantime they claim they are ceasing sales of virtual classes through the app. We haven't seen this happen yet, so who knows?

Current Covid Policies
