We are in the process of putting together our mission trips to Africa for 2017, and we'd love for you to join! This year, depending on interest, we are hoping to take three different trips to visit our projects, each with a slightly different focus. Though we don't have exact dates yet, we wanted to give you a breakdown of some of the details for these opportunities so that you can be thinking about if you'd like to come along, and which one would suit you best.
1. Reformation 500: The first trip would be in the latter part of May and early June. We are thinking about visiting Germany to experience some of the celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation and then on to Ethiopia. The time in Germany would be about a week, and Ethiopia travel afterwards another 7-9 days. This extra time would be spent in mainly the central/southern regions of Ethiopia, where we would see water projects and communities with our partner there, the Mekane Yesus Church (Lutheran Church of Ethiopia) and visit some of the important sites of Ethiopian Christian heritage. The group would be led by W2T founder Dick Moeller in both Germany and Ethiopia. For this trip to be viable, we will need at least 9 travelers.
2. Northern Ethiopia: The second trip for the summer would be in June or July, and would be a more typical trip with Water to Thrive. This can be a group of donors or supporters of any age who want to experience a trip with us. We will travel to mainly the Tigray region of Ethiopia, where we have one of our biggest partners, REST. Along with some site-seeing, we will be able to visit many of our completed projects as well as some yet to be constructed.
3. Rotary: Over the past months, Rotary has become a big partner of W2T here in Austin as well as in Ethiopia. We have been working on a Global Grant for ten Rotary-sponsored well projects. As our connections with Rotary clubs in the U.S. as well as with a club in Addis Ababa continue to grow, we would love to take other Rotarians along with us on this trip to experience firsthand the impact that Rotary is having on people across the globe. This trip would be in the fall, probably in November.
Going on a trip with Water to Thrive means you'll get to experience rich culture, meet amazing people, and create memories you will always cherish. There is truly nothing like traveling across the globe to see firsthand the work that is being done because of generous donors like you. In addition to some site seeing, we get to spend time with our local partners in the countries we serve, meet beneficiaries at each water project site, and learn about how clean water has drastically changed their communities for good.
If you are interested in coming with us on one of these three trips in the summer, email Executive Director Susanne Wilson at email@example.com and we can get you more information.
