|CHNAlberta Newsflash (September 2014)
Welcome to the first edition of CHNAlberta Newsflash. This is a new initiative of CHNAlberta that will be sent out to members on a monthly basis between September 2014 to June 2015. The CHNAlberta Newsflash will include updates as well as several video clips and thought provoking questions on topics that may be of interest to Community Health Nurses practicing in Alberta.
CHNAb upcoming events:
Mark your calendars for May 1 and 2, 2015 in Red Deer The executive has heard from its members that they enjoy connecting in person. A workshop titled “Upstream with a Paddle-Staying Strong in Changing Currents” will be held on Saturday May 2, 2015. CHNAlberta will be celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2015 and we will be commemorating the event with a ceremony recognizing Community Health Nurses (CHNs) in Alberta for their unique contributions to the health and well being of all Albertans on the evening of May 1, 2015. More details will be coming to you in upcoming editions of CHNAlberta Newsflash.
Website update: The website will be updated this year to make it easy for you to find information to support your practice.
CHN Certification Sponsorship: Last year, we sponsored six candidates in obtaining the CCHN(C) Certification Designation (Certified in Community Health Nursing Canada) offered by the Canadian Nurses Association. All candidates were successful! Congratulations!
All CHNAlberta members are invited to apply for funding to write the CHN certification exam in April 2015. Applicants who are selected as part of the 2015 cohort of 8 will have access to online resources to support exam preparation and will have the exam fee reimbursed by CHNAlberta, upon receipt of successful results. It is an expectation that those who receive funding will choose to “pay-it-forward” through future work with CHNAlberta and/or within the nursing community in ways that enhance the certification mandate. Please see the website at www.chnalberta.ca for information and an application form for the Certification Project. Deadline is October 15, 2014.
