Our Summer Institute includes a two-day Autism Boot Camp designed for those new to the autism spectrum disorder (ASD) classroom or those wanting to improve their current classroom to meet the needs of students with ASD.

Presenters have all had experience as current or former teachers and will provide practical information for getting the class off to a good start.

Understanding and Supporting Students (K-6) with ASD in the General Education Classroom

With 1 in 68 children today affected by ASD, the general education classroom faces new challenges to support this group of students. This training will address the needs of students, grades K-6, in the three core challenge areas: theory of mind/central coherence, executive functioning, and behavioral challenges in puberty. Strategies to support these students and promote learning will be provided. Through multiple classroom examples to illustrate common challenging classroom situations, participants will learn easy-to-implement interventions for improving abilities and minimizing the effects of the core deficits of ASD.

An Introduction to the PEAK Training System and Curriculum for Students with ASD

This portion of our autism summer institute will focus on a new approach to teaching complex behaviors to students with ASD. Often, these students become “stuck” at the concrete level of language comprehension. What does a word like “big” really mean? The PEAK Relational Training System in an evaluation and curriculum guide for teaching basic and advanced language skills from a contemporary behavior analytic approach. It differs from traditional verbal behavior (VB) approaches in that it specifically evaluates and teaches children the relation and complex repertoires needed to respond to their world with meaning and understanding. This program was designed for teachers in public school settings; don’t let the behavior analysis approach scare you away!
