Social impairments have been identified as targets for intervention for students with autism. Several interventions incorporate a social-communication skills teaching component and utilize
typically-developing peers to foster social development in young children with autism. This session will discuss the models supported by evidence and how to incorporate these models into a daily school routine.

This presentation will share the components of comprehensive reading interventions for learners with ASD and intellectual disabilities (ID) that address code- and meaning- focused skills. Participants will learn evidence-based approaches shown to enhance reading development. Specific examples of how to assess current reading skills of learners with ASD and ID as well as methods for applying effective reading strategies in the context of a comprehensive reading curriculum will be presented.
