Steve has been serving as our interim Worship Leader since mid-April of this year. He has served as the bi-vocational Worship Leader at several other area churches:

  • Parkway Baptist in Smyrna, TN (2018-2021)
  • Bellevue Baptist in Nashville, TN (2016-2017)
  • Faith Baptist in Arlington, TN (2013-2015)
  • Broadmoor Baptist in Memphis, TN (2011-2013)
  • New Church Memphis in Memphis, TN (2006-2009)

Steve has been leading worship for the past 25+ years. He received Christ as Savior at age 5 and was baptized at 7. As a child and teen, he was classically trained in piano, guitar and voice, and got started leading worship at age 15 at his home church. He began as a piano performance major at Trinity Western University but left to join an educational program where he studied abroad and served as a missionary/English teacher in Moscow, Russia for several years. While there he started several vocal groups that sang in churches, and he also helped with music at Golgotha Baptist. When he returned, he spent some time writing video soundtrack music and directing choir for a nonprofit Christian ministry before moving to Minneapolis where he served as director of community ministries for an inner-city church and did a seven-year mentorship in church ministry and law under the pastor, who was also an attorney.  Steve was ordained at Parkway Baptist in Smyrna, TN on August 19, 2021.

Steve and his wife Sarah have lived in Franklin for the past seven years and before that were in Memphis, Sarah's hometown. They have four children, Austin (20), Elaine (18), Wesley (14), and Evan (10). He has degrees in business and law and is an operations director with HCA's corporate HR group. Prior to that, he was the operations director for a legal services company and worked in litigation technology for a Nashville-based law firm.

Steve enjoys running, music (surprise!), movies, and spending time with his family, including outdoors and at sporting, theater, and music events. He is originally from Vancouver Island, British Columbia in Canada but usually only says "eh" and "soh-rry" when he's doing an impression of a Canadian.
More information on this bi-vocational role and the official recommendation from the Personnel Team will be shared during our Called Business Meeting this Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 6 pm. Church members will vote to call Steve Krell as our Worship Pastor on Sunday, Dec. 11, at the end of both morning services.
