Dear <<First Name>>,

It is Spring.
Plants are stretching their leaves and making new blooms - beauty is again around us.
With the war and suffering of so many, it is difficult to share any excitement at the moment.

I do firmly believe that engaging in art-making and honoring our bodies through movement and togetherness is what we need to be doing.
Gathering, embracing our differences, and engaging in actively trying to understand each other (verbally or non verbally through dance) is a political statement.

It's always been political to choose to dance... to oppose the church... the oppose social stigma... to dare bring pleasure to yourself... to dare show joy in your sense... to touch others when social distance is enforced... to engage in nonverbal communication... to gather different races and nationalities in peaceful ways... to engage with each other in physical and pleasurable ways...

I hope you are able to do at least one of those things and to keep sanity, joy and community
Following the motto of keep on going... there is much coming up for BodyMeld in the spring. I hope you can join in.

In other news:

I am excited to be going on tour tomorrow.  It's only 3 hours away from Sofia, but it is in a different country - North Macedonia... On Monday I am performing in Dance baby dance by Bulgarian choreographer Zhana Pencheva.  This piece is largely created as an aftereffect of the pandemic, where these six characters live in pleasure. We dance, touch, seduce, and over time we lose all semblance of socially acceptable behavior - dancing naked, singing, touching, playing, embracing.  Every time I perform this piece I feel like we channel part of the human psyche that I wish we had more of in this world.  Yet, this piece questions, who gets to be able to dance, who gets to be able to safely go insane?  Here is the link to the event, if you happen to be in Skopje.
COMING UP SOON

In-person classes in Sofia, Bulgaria

I'm working on setting up in-person improvisation and composition classes called Morning tag (Сутрешна гоненка)  in Sofia, Bulgaria starting April 18th.  I will write more in detail to the group of you who are located in Bulgaria as soon as I have confirmation from the space.

Brutal Honesty open call

I will have an open call for a 5 day paid research for 5 to 6 professional dancers here in Sofia Bulgaria to take place beginning of June through a residency at New Bulgarian University.  I'm hoping to make the announcement next week when I come back from Macedonia.

Get What You Need - silent auction and final showing

Working hard on setting up the final showing of the 8 month-long residency in Philadelphia.  Lindsey Huster and Julia Bryck are piecing two incredible performances to share with the community in person and online.  As a way to help pay for this program, we are going to hold a silent auction where you will be able to buy some great art and dance classes. If you are an artist and would like to contribute to our silent auction... please hit reply and let me know. We need all the help we can get to fund this important program.

Alternative Stage Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria

Ok the cat is out of the bag.  I am starting an outdoor site-specific festival.  It will happen in September and BodyMeld, along with Atom Theater and Platform for Improvisation and Composition will create unique outdoor events for our audiences.  I am still looking for more money in order to be able to have an open call for other artists to join in the fun.  But more official info will be coming in May.

Hope everyone is getting what they need this season and you have space for feeling your body and dancing a bit... even if its home alone while listening to guilty pleasure music :)

With love and gratitude.
