VAFF 2013 countdown is on!

Volume 4. Issue 8. October 2013

VAFF 2013 Centrepiece Film: JOHN APPLE JACK

Our Centrepiece Film this year is JOHN APPLE JACK, a romantic comedy shot and produced right here in Vancouver.

When John discovers his sister’s fiancé is Jack, his childhood crush, passions ignite and his life
spirals out of control… losing his job, his playboy reputation AND his underwear – all while rushing to the altar to finally confess his love! Promiscuous John was once easy for Jack to ignore. But a newer, penniless, more soulful John may soon prove too hard to kick to the curb. Set in Vancouver’s East-meets-West glamourous restaurant industry… the challenge for both John and Jack is to find a way to blend money, sex, love and family into one sumptuous recipe for life.

Tickets available online at next week! Stay tuned.

VAFF 2013 Closing Night Film: MILLIONS

MILLIONS is the story of a group of twenty-somethings, who decide to make good on a pact they made as teenagers: to do whatever it takes to become millionaires by the age of 30. Indie and Canadian, this film is a personal story about young Asian North Americans, but that has nothing to do with being Asian. A first feature by VAFF alum (Beauty Heart Story, VAFF 2010) Andrew Chung, MILLIONS will resonate with anyone who has felt bombarded by the pressure to succeed.

Tickets available online at next week! In the meantime, watch the trailer!

Shum: "I make a film in five stages: writing, pre/production, editing, sound and marketing. I'll screen I Saw You and talk about those stages in that film and then the audience can ask me questions."

Join Cineworks for this intensive writer/director/producer talk back with one of Vancouver's finest. Free entry.

A LOT LIKE YOU Screening

It was a packed house on October 8 at Vancouver Public Library's Central Branch for our encore screening of A LOT LIKE YOU. We were fortunate to be joined by director Eliaichi Kimaro, who captivated the audience with her film and in the Q&A that followed.
