Open Call for VAFF 18 film entries ends May 31st!

With the falling of the sakura blossoms and the first days of warmth, we are reminded that the 18th Annual Vancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF) is a mere six months away. Excitement continues to build as film submissions arrive for our selection team. However, for those captivating films yet to be submitted for consideration in this year’s festival, the deadline for entries on May 31st is fast approaching. Are you on the creative team of the next great VAFF tour de force? Are you the talent behind a Canadian-Asian live action short film capable of winning our Award for Best Canadian Short, presented by the National Film Board of Canada?  View our guidelines and make your submissions through Without A Box or our online submission form at vaff.org.

Our submission categories include Narrative (drama, comedy, romance, etc.), Documentary, Animation, Experimental, and Digital/Interactive projects. Films and videos must have been completed no earlier than January 31st, 2012, and at least one member of the creative team and/or the lead actor(s) must be of Asian heritage. Don’t miss your film’s chance to be the one everyone talks about this November!

Happy 10th Birthday MAMM!

Pressure makes diamonds out of coal and there have been many gems borne out of the Mighty Asian Moviemaking Marathon (MAMM) in the last 10 years. MAMM is a competition for Asian Canadian filmmakers, screenwriters, actors, and other creatives to craft a short film over 10 days. Competitors must also successfully incorporate surprise elements into their films that are given to them at the launch of the competition. A screening day with a packed theatre culminates in the naming of a MAMM winner by the esteemed panel of judges. MAMM will be celebrating its 10th year by looking back and interviewing our past winners. What happened to those bright-eyed filmmakers and what are they doing now? Look out for our refreshed MAMM mascots design as well, as we engage the original artist to re-imagine MAMM in 2014!
