Free gift for you and your students: Holiday Songbook

As we ESL teachers learn, our students regard us as a great gift in their lives...little do newcomers realize what a gift they are to us, and to the country.

So here is my gift to your class:

Get ready to sing! I've prepared some holiday songs, added a few illustrations by Dave Nicholson, and added that oh-so-needed Word Help at the bottom of each page.

The large 24-point type suitable for new readers/singers of English will make your holidays brighter. If you are in a school where you are forbidden by the politically correct police to sing carols of a religious nature, alas, play it safe and just choose the secular songs. Or sing them all and justify them as "American culture" that newcomers have a right to know.

You can download, print out, and reproduce the 18 songs, including "Over the River," "The Dreidel Song," "Here Comes Santa Claus," "Jingle Bells," "Santa Claus is Coming Tonight," "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," "Silent Night" "O Holy Night," "Joy to the World," "Auld Lang Syne" and eight other holiday favorites.

Cloze Tests - Feedback wanted

I'd love feedback on the FREE Cloze Tests and the Which-word-does-not-belong tests I've been posting at the website. The quizzes for the December issue of Easy English NEWS are already on the website. If you haven't used the November tests, this is the time to try them out.

The tests are based on articles in the newspaper, but can be used by advanced students even without reading the paper. They provide the information in identical form as in the newspaper article, and test vocabulary and knowledge of sentence structure.

These are free for you to use and make life easier in the classroom. See the instructions for 4 different ways to use the Cloze tests.

Welcome back to Momma: ESL Teacher's HOLIDAY Activities Kit

Another baby's come home! Prentice Hall/Pearson Education has let go of my book, ESL Teacher's HOLIDAY Activities Kit. With veteran teachers wanting to replace their well-used copies they bought 15 years ago, and new teachers having never seen it, I decided to get it back into print. The shipment of new books has just arrived from the printer. To celebrate,

Holidays are here, so if you don't already own it, try out this 200-page reproducible teacher resource for 40 holidays and events in the year. Makes a great gift for your ESL friends. Remember that all my materials come with a 100% money-back guarantee.
