Power to the Pedals from West County Revolution
January 2010 Soup Spoons and Carbon Forks Ride Announcement

Get out that new kit you got for Christmas and join us on January 16th for the first Soup Spoons and Carbon Forks ride of 2010. We will be starting and ending the ride at Rosso Pizzeria who make some of the best pizzas this side of Italy. You are going to be burning some major calories on this route so we wanted to make sure that you would be looking forward to the post ride feast. Invite your non-biking friends, spouse, children or significant other to join us after the ride for a wonderful lunch hosted and prepared by owners Kevin Cronin and John Franchetti.

The Appetizer Course will include a beautiful ride out Montecito on to St. Helena and Spring Mountain where you can reconnect with those climbing legs. Then onto CA-29 for some fast flats and rollers until you cut off on Franz Valley, over to Franz Valley School, Petrified Forest, Calistoga and back to Santa Rosa. On December's ride this group was flying at a smokin' pace so we made it a bit longer with plenty of areas to give it your all.

The Entree Course (which will be kept to about 40 miles) will take us out Chalk Hill then onto CA-128 for some nice flats and speed. After we roll into Calistoga, we will turn onto Petrified Forest and continue in on the Appetizer Course picking up any lost souls from that group. The last part of the ride has the majority of the elevation change so make sure you leave enough in the tank for the end of this ride.

Our third route offered is the Desert Course which will clock in at 20 miles. It is just the right distance if you want to tow your kids in a chariot or if hills and road traffic are not your thing. Feel free to stop along the way and savor the winter views as you will have plenty of time. We start at the restaurant with the entire group and head out to Howarth Memorial Park, take in the views around Oakmont and return through Spring Lake Park.

All of the route maps are on the second page of the rsvp survey which is referenced below.

In case of inclement weather, we have two cycling-specific workouts planned at Three Dog Yoga for you. The usual cost per class is $16, but Anna and David Guhin will be giving the Soup Spoons & Carbon Forks group a discount and will offer both classes for $16. Should be a great core, stretch, strengthening workout, not to mention FUN!!

The decision on this alternative will be made by the Wednesday prior to the ride. Check them out at www.threedogyoga.com if you haven't already done so.
