Spotlight Member: Julie Shea

Just over three years ago I joined my father, John Shea Sr., owner and founder, and my brother, John, our property manager, to work at Centennial Place where I function as general counsel, lease administrator, and coordinator of marketing, communications, and publicity on most days. But we are a family business, so there are times when I wear other hats as well.
As most know, Centennial Place is a retail center on Cleveland Road between Grape and Main in Granger. We like to consider it the retail gem of Michiana, a unique collection of upscale shopping, dining and services. And our patrons will be thrilled to know that dining returns to Centennial Place this summer with the coming of Simonini Gourmet, a contemporary Italian eatery serving heirloom family recipes and Lavazza coffee!
We are proud to have Talbots, Chico’s and Concord Custom Cleaners as long-time anchor merchants. And we are most proud of our unique collection of local owners and operators who have set an incomparable standard of quality at Centennial Place. The Shea family roots are local as well. Our ancestors came from Ireland and England in the 19th century to settle in Indianapolis. Our family found our way back to South Bend in 1968.
Although I wandered to Chicago for a legal career at law firms and eventually my own practice, I have never before felt the passion that I feel for my work at Centennial Place. My Dad and I were working together the day before he passed last September. It was my privilege to work with him and learn from him for over two years. Now we all work together to honor his legacy: my brothers, John and Mark, sisters, Roseanne and Mary Beth with my mom, Rosemary, our “woman owner” watching over us all.
