Rugged Routers Running Cisco IOS from X-ES
X-ES Introduces Rugged Routers Running Cisco IOS for SWaP- Constrained Applications
X-ES introduces a PMC/XMC-based router, the XPedite5205 Embedded Services Router (ESR) and a packaged router in a Small Form Factor (SFF) enclosure, the SFFR. Both routers run Cisco™ IOS® Software with Cisco Mobile Ready Net capabilities, providing highly secure data, voice, and video communications to stationary and mobile network nodes across wired and wireless links.XPedite5205

The X-ES routers use the same Cisco IOS that IT staffs in the military, energy, public safety, and other industries are already trained on to enable these organizations to expand their network to personnel, equipment, facilities, and vehicles at the edge of the network – warfighters on the battlefield, mines and drilling platforms, natural disaster mobile command centers – without any additional training. UHF, VHF, Wi-Fi and other radio platforms can be connected to these routers to create the network nodes used to form mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). With the ability to operate without a connection to central infrastructure, MANETs offer many advantages for military, public safety, and emergency response users. The X-ES routers extend the Cisco enterprise infrastructure beyond the reach of traditional fixed-network infrastructure for oil and gas, mining, smart grid, heavy construction, transportation, homeland security, and public safety applications.

Both routers offer high performance, four Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, and a rich Cisco IOS Software feature set for the most Size, Weight, and Power
SFFR(SWaP) constrained applications. To meet the needs of demanding mobile and embedded networking applications, the routers provide hardware encryption, radio aware routing (RAR) with support for the latest Dynamic Link Exchange Protocol (DLEP), support for IPv6, integrated threat control with integrated Cisco IOS firewalls and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), and Quality of Service (QoS).

The XPedite5205 ESR is an air- or conduction-cooled PMC/XMC router card that can plug into existing sockets or be used in stand-alone applications. For the SFFR, there are available packaging options to meet a wide range of application and industry needs. The SFFR is available in natural convection-cooled, conduction-cooled, or forced air-cooled enclosures in either horizontal or vertical orientations. It is available with commercial RJ-45, industrial IP66/67, or military D38999 front-panel connectors. To enable the SFFR to be deployed quickly, the rugged router has passed appropriate environmental and EMI testing.
