Flood Warning - Friday 20 December
A Flood Warning was issued early this morning by The Environment Agency for the Lower Stour from Sturminster Marshall to Christchurch and for Redhill and Wheatplot Home Sites.
As a result of persistent rain, river levels have risen at the Blandford river gauge and flooding is possible for farms at Sturminster Marshall, Cowgrove, shops in Wimborne, Mill Street in Corfe Mullen, Bridge House Hotel in Ferndown, Brecon Close, Ringwood Road, Redhill and Wheatplot Home Sites, Throop Road in Bournemouth, Barrack Road and Willow Way in Christchurch.
We're keeping a close eye on the situation, but at this time we are not anticipating evacuations or the need for rest centres in affected Dorset Council areas.
If you are in one of these affected areas, what should you do?
Check the current Flood Warnings to see if you need to take action
Owners with property flood resilience equipment should install it now.
Be careful of swiftly rising river levels, especially if you live in low lying areas, alongside the Stour or if you are walking near the river.
If you are likely to be affected, the Flood Information Service advises you to: prepare a bag including medicines and insurance documents; move valuables upstairs or to safety; turn off gas, electricity and water; and move family, pets and car to safety.
