Pan-Dorset Safeguarding Newsletter
January 2020

Don't forget....

From 1 April 2020, the following Safeguarding courses will have new names…

Pan-Dorset SCP Foundation in Safeguarding Children
will replace our current LSCB Level 2 Safeguarding children course

Pan-Dorset SCP Multi-Agency Working Together in Safeguarding
will replace the current LSCB Level 3 Safeguarding Children Initial Course

Pan-Dorset SCP Multi-Agency Working Together in Safeguarding - Update
will replace the current LSCB Level 3 Safeguarding Children Update.

In each case, this is a name change only, which Pan-Dorset SCP believes will promote a clearer idea of the training outcomes.

Safer Recruitment Refresher

Following a recent decision by the Strategic Training Group, it is recommended that you refresh your Safer Recruitment training every 3 years (previously 5 years).

Please check when you last attended. Dates for the new financial year will be released soon on Dorset Nexus.

Supervision Training

This course was offered as a taster in the 2019/20 programme and had a focus on schools. Feedback was excellent so we are currently working with the training provider to commission a revised version to meet the needs of the wider workforce. The aim is to provide a better understanding of each other's practice and offer consistency across Dorset and BCP areas

Course price increase

From the 1 June 2020 the delegate cost for a whole day course will increase to £75 and the cost for a half day will increase to £50.

This has not been an easy decision, but course fees have not increased since the Pan-Dorset Training function was set up in 2015.  All the associated costs to deliver these courses have increased e.g. venue costs, commissioned trainers' fees and staffing costs to administer the service to the high standards that are now in place.

We have looked at our comparable neighbours and they have been charging between £85 and £100 course fees for at least the last two years.

Many delegates have already been accepted onto courses for April and May, and to honour those bookings the price increase will not take effect until 1 June 2020.

Bookings

All delegates need their own individual Nexus account to book any Pan-Dorset SCP training. Please visit www.dorsetnexus.org.uk to register.

Before signing up to an account, check what team you should be under on Nexus. Often your organisation already has a site set up and within it, there may be multiple teams. The more accurate information we have, the quicker we will be able to set your account up.

Waiting list
This is no guarantee of a place. Please do not attend unless you have received an email confirming your booking.

Non-attendance & cancellations

Non-attendance on a course will mean that your organisation will be invoiced for the full cost of a place which has not been taken up.

Safeguarding cancellation or non-attendance charging policy is as follows;
  • All cancellations must be requested via your Nexus account.
  • Cancellations made more than 28 days before the course date will not be charged.
  • Cancellations within 28 days of the course date will be charged the full cost. However, you have the option of nominating an alternative suitable person to take your place (you must contact the training team to agree this – please email lscbstraining@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk).
  • Delegates’ non-attendance will be charged the full course fee.
  • Free training courses will incur an admin fee of £25 for non-attendance or for cancellations within 28 days of the course date.
Unless there are exceptional circumstances, the full course fee will still be applied if you:
  • Cancel a place less than 28 days before the course date
  • Do not turn up on the day

Course attendance and certificates

It is a requirement that you attend the course in full. If you are unable to attend at short notice or on the day you should notify the Pan Dorset SCP Training Team via email lscbstraining@dorsetcouncil.gov.uk stating the reason for non-attendance.

Failure to attend a course on the day (or each day if it is a multiday course) will result in the full course fee being payable unless exceptional circumstances apply.

Late arrival or early departure (more than 30 minutes) from the course will result in you being shown as not completing the course.

Every course will have a delegate sign-in sheet on display - please make sure you sign this as how you prove you attended the course. You must sign the attendance register on all days of a multiday course. Failure to do so will result in your certificate being marked ‘part attended’.

Certificates are only sent out to delegates who have signed in. If you have not completed the course based on these criteria you will be marked on the register as not completing the course and you will not receive a certificate. Your employer will still be charged the full course fee for your attendance.

Course authorisation

Once a course place is authorised (item is checked out of the basket), a link to access pre-course material will be emailed to you. Please note that if your account is registered as ‘non user’, any emails related to your bookings will be sent directly to the person who manages and/or authorises your bookings. A note for managers/booking authorisers
