Summer greetings! Thank you for reading my newsletter. I am grateful for you!

Report from Documenta 15

I’ve just returned from Documenta in Kassel, Germany. Documenta 15 is an exhibition of contemporary art, which takes place every five years in Kassel, Germany. Document 15 was amazing because of the way it was curated by ruangrupa, the Jakarta-based artists’ collective. They built the foundation of Document 15 on the core values and ideas of lumbung (Indonesian term for a communal rice barn). Lumbung as an artistic and economic model is rooted in principles such as collectivity, communicable resource sharing, and equal allocation, and is embodied in all parts of the collaboration and exhibition.

Though Documenta 15 has some controversy, I was among many who found the entire experience to be thoughtful and emotive. There was an incredible consideration of artists and collaborations. In person there was a feeling of perseverance, community, and human collaboration as well as of shared resources.

Anne Labovitz Gratitude Quilt
Permanent collection Festival Unbound

My Gratitude Quilt is now part of the permanent exhibit of Touchstone Theater’s Festival UnBound. In Autumn 2021, I was an artist-in-residence working with communities during the festival. It’s so fun to see the community Gratitude Quilt installed at Touchstone. This was co-created with the community of Bethlehem over a 5-day Festival Unbound 2022. So much fun; so much gratitude!

I hope you will be able to resume traveling, if you have not already. Please look out for my permanent public art mosaics, which were installed during COVID at Terminal 1 Departures Hall.  They are directly to the right of the Delta check in.
Here is a nifty MSP map tool to help you locate the mosaics here and here. If you're flying through MSP, you can see the work. Or if you are flying in or out of the Humphrey Terminal, you can see my 122 Conversations, which is installed pre-security on the main floor. Cool map feature to help you locate 122 here.

I was recently featured in Studio Visit magazine. I’m honored to have been selected. Please check out Volume 49 here.
