Chagas Disease in Colombia: An opportunity to lead the way towards change

During the month that celebrates International Chagas Disease Day, Colombia, via its Ministry of Health has confirmed its commitment to the disease, a reason for optimism for the entire region. Aware of the difficulty of access to diagnosis and treatment (less than 1,000 patients treated), an action plan has been proposed to tackle Chagas Disease
under the leadership of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection. »

ASMQ FDC registered in Cambodia and Thailand

The anti-malarial fixed dose combination of AS and MQ (ASMQ FDC), produced by DNDi’s Indian industrial partner Cipla, and that was included in the National Malaria Policy of Cambodia in 2013 as part of its multi-first line approach, is now officially registered in the country. It was also recently registered in Thailand.  ASMQ FDC is one of five Artemisinin Combination Therapies (ACTs) currently recommended by WHO for the treatment of uncomplicated P. falciparum malaria, and is the first-line treatment in a number of South East Asian countries. »

Colombia commits to overcoming barriers of access to diagnosis and treatment of Chagas disease

Colombia's Ministry of Health and partners propose recommendations for overcoming barriers of access to diagnosis and treatment of Chagas disease in Colombia. With DNDi’s support, they presented a roadmap and proposed a model project at regional and national level for the treatment of Chagas that can be reproduced in other countries. »

35.3 million are still living with HIV including 3.3 million children. Despite major progress in access to treatments, adapted treatments for the youngest are still lacking and caregivers who are often families struggle with administrating inappropriate drugs. We met Gloria and her HIV positive son Simon who shared with us their daily life with Simon’s disease. »

New website highlights Swiss engagement in the fight against Malaria

Switzerland is recognized as a major player in the fight and control of malaria. The Swiss Malaria Group officially launched its new website that provides comprehensive information on malaria and the role of Switzerland in fighting this fatal disease. »
