Free Earth Carers course
Our new motto is Full lives, empty bins and we aim to explore this fully during our Earth Carers course.  Suited to people who would like to learn to live with less waste, live more sustainably and connect with their community.

If you have already done the course please pass this on to others you know who may enjoy it.  For more details, a copy of the program and registration form click here.  Hurry, the course has been very popular and places are filling fast.

Less is More Festival

Over 500 people learnt new skills to reduce their waste and live more sustainably at the Less is More Festival held at The Grove Library on Saturday 18 February 2012. The Festival was organised on a shoestring budget by Claire Litton, a recent Earth Carers course graduate.  Participants made toothpaste, deodorant and washable sanitary napkins. and sampled food at the cooking demonstrations.

For a full write-up see the inspiring Olive on Blonde who wrote “The classes were all buzzing with conversation with the presenter providing a framework but the crowd sharing their stories and tips. There was such a feeling of community.”

Volunteer of the Month
Fernanda Pasetto completed the Earth Carers course in May 2011 whilst
studying in Perth; she is now living back home in Brazil.  Earlier this year Fernanda wrote to us telling of her plans of developing a sustainability project for NGOs to "make my dream come true". Fernanda has used material provided in the Earth Carers course and credits the course for having changed her lifestyle. Thanks Fernanda for spreading the message wherever it's needed.

Carrotmob!
Earth Carer Nikki's son Ivan is involved with a highly innovative and contemporary approach to sustainability -  Carrotmob. The idea is to motivate restaurants to be more sustainable in their practices and actively market and
support those that are heading in the right direction.Think buycott not boycott.

Plastic Free Year
After participating in a council waste audit Earth Carer friends Jess and
Nathan decided to take up the challenge of a plastic free year. They created a Facebook page to follow their story and challenges and to share alternatives to plastic in the Fremantle area.

Freo Cycle Chic

Inspired by movies such as 'Beauty and the Bike' or smile when you see people cycling in 'normal clothes'?  Rebecca is involved with the new Freo Cycle Chic movement.  Earth Carers are welcome to join us in Kings Square, Ftle from 5pm Friday 23 March 2012 for 'Reclaim the Bike' - a community celebration of cycling including a bike fashion parade!

Twilight Garden Fair
Amy is involved in the Hilton Harvest community garden and they are holding their Twilight Fair on Saturday 31 March 2012.  If last years fair is anything to go by it should be a wonderful evening, click here for details.

Olive oil anyone?
Amy, Rebecca and their families last year picked olives to be pressed for oil and are keen to repeat the experience with our Earth Carers.  The idea is that during
a weekend later in autumn we all pick
olives from trees in our neighbourhood and deliver them to the Earth Carers office.  We will organise transport to the press in Herne Hill and divide the oil accordingly. More details to follow, email us if you would like to be involved or even just know a good tree to pick!

Consultation on Packaging
Consultation workshops have been conducted for the federal Packaging Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS). Nabilla attended the Perth session last week and thought some Earth Carers may be interested.

The document examines national options for improving packaging recycling and reducing litter (including two options for Container Deposit Systems). To view the document and or to write a submission click here.  Public comment is sought by 30 March 2012.
