News for the Earth Carers community -  making good waste practices normal in the Western Suburbs
Hi <<First Name>>,

Christmas is just around the corner, and as the silly season gears up it is important to be mindful of the waste we generate. Take the time to make your Christmas a 'waste-less' one. There are so many fun ways we can reduce waste this festive season – why not make your own gifts or eco wrap your gifts with reusable paper or fabric. Finally we want to wish all our Earth Carers and extended community a safe and Merry Christmas. We look forward to working with you on some exciting events in 2017!
So what are we up to in our mission to make good waste practices normal in the Western Suburbs? Read on... And some other news...

Twilight Movie Screening - The True Cost

After a successful run of movies last summer, our twilight movie screenings are back. The first in the series will screen ‘The True Cost’ - a documentary film exploring the impact of the global clothing industry on people and the planet. We will also have an opportunity for people to upcycle their fashion with a ‘clothes swap’ being held prior to the film. So mark it in your calendars!

Where: WMRC Administration Office, 40 Marine Parade (corner of Warton Street) Cottesloe.
When: Friday 20th January at 6.30pm for clothes swap, movie starts at 7.30pm depending on sunset.
Bring: Everything! Food, drinks, picnic rug and pre-loved clothes for the clothes swap.

Low waste Christmas ideas

Instead of giving a physical item consider giving a voucher for an experience such as theatre tickets, a trip to the zoo, massage, restaurant vouchers or your time (the greatest gift) .

The fabric wrap in the picture has been used for a few years now. Each year new vouchers go in -  a homemade meal, an extra-long story time for a child or a bike ride.  The gift of spending time with someone you care about can also happen through the year. Click here for more ideas.

12 Do's of Christmas

Did you know Australians throw out about $1,100 worth of food each year and collectively more than $10 billion of food goes into landfill each year? Reduce your food waste over Christmas plus other handy tips with Planet Ark’s 12 Do’s of Christmas.

Adopt a spot

Is there an area in your community that could do with a good clean up? Keep Australia Beautiful Council is encouraging people to join in the Adopt-a-Spot program whereby community groups, businesses, schools or even individuals can volunteer a few hours and contribute to a cleaner environment. By registering you have access to free resources to help, insurance cover if you need it and an adoption certificate.
