As the ground shook their very foundations, many parents worried for their family’s survival through the impending cold. A 7.5 earthquake in the mountainous region between Pakistan and Afghanistan resonated across South Asia during winter last year. The worst of the damage was felt in Pakistan, causing severe damage to infrastructure including homes and schools. The hard-to-reach rural villages in the country’s northern provinces were especially in need of urgent emergency relief.
Zakat Foundation of America (ZF) was amongst the first responders in the aftermath of this natural disaster. In collaboration with its partners on the ground, ZF delivered winter kits and blankets to thousands of people. As many families had lost their homes in the earthquake, the ZF winter kits were a blessing in helping them stay warm during the winter.
This winter, ZF’s support continues to encircle not only needy families in Pakistan, India, in Nepal, but also families who now find themselves out in the cold as a result of conflicts escalating in countries like Iraq and Syria.
