A Mixed Bag
The Wellers hosted Marcellin at the GBO last weekend but unfortunately the Seniors were unable to beat Marcellin, going down by a narrow margin. The Ressies played around the corner due to a clash with CGS and were triumphant. The Thirds struggled against an inform Kew side.
The club now has 2 away games in row with Ivanhoe and Ormond. We encourage our club supporters to come down and cheer on the Wellers.
Our first luncheon
is now locked in for 25th June
. Apologies for any inconvenience with the date changes.
From the start of our warm up against Marcellin at home on May 7th, it seemed as if we weren't quite switched on. This was reflected in our first 10 minutes of football as our opponents skipped away to a sizeable lead. Luckily we were able to fight our way back into the game thanks to some great play up forward by Tom Allwright.
Unfortunately, our inconsistent football continued into the second and third quarters. We looked great in patches, however too often let ourselves down by switching off and allowing our opponents to score easy goals. We were kept in the game by some great efforts all day down back by Phil Bennett and Chooka Howells and in the middle from Nick Latsas and Jimmy Allen. Great games were also played by new blokes to the club: Mitch Trait and Joey Arnold.
Our final quarter showcased the football we are able to play when we are switched on as we booted 7 goals to 1 and came close to stealing the match. Alas, this was not to be and Marcellin deserved the win as they were the better side on the day, coming out victors by 10 points. Well done to Tom Kanz who stuck at it all day and ended with 5 goals.
It is encouraging to see how good our football can be, but our challenge remains to put together 4 good quarters of football each and every week. If we can do this, no doubt the results will come.

We travelled down high street to take on Kew at Victoria Park and with a full side we were optimistic about our chances to get our first win.
After putting in a strong first three quarters we were in touch of the opposition - however we were unable to get the win in the final quarter as Kew out ran us in the last.
Unfortunately injuries early in the game took there toll on us and we were unable to produce enough to get across the line.
Again I'd like to thank those players that helped out on the sidelines and to the supporters who came down to get behind the team.
We look forward to hosting Ormond this week at home.
